experiment a lot with your own personal style! try new makeup and clothes don't feel like you have to buy certain things to be perceived as alt a lot of the style comes from diying things and playing around with things you already have you can find a lot of great diy tutorials online - thrift stores/craft stores will be your best friend u can also try styling things that may be considered basic in creative new ways to make it more alt and cool ^^ but ultimately keep in mind that being alt is a mindset and there's no one way to be alternative or a specific mold you have to fit have fun with it and be creative :3
There's plenty of subgenres obviously so I for sure recommend identifying the differences :) I think for most if not all of them diy is reccomended and you can make quite cool stuff :). Thrifting is also a good alterntive changing your wardrobe up. I think its also a music based thing more than style, but I was preticularly talking terms of fashion. I listen to the music more than I dress the part nowadays, feel the only thing that shows i'm alternative in any from is my piercings and eye makeup lol. I don't know much else to recommend lol. Just thrifting and diy for sure. Patches are always super fun I've seen someone diy a jean jacket and put patches and other things on it and it looked cool. Basically you can make anything out for anything tbh.
