90% of the Chainsaw Man fandom misinterprets Makima and I hate it so much, so here’s my viewing of her.
Makima is (at least to me) the main villain/antagonist on the story, her being the reason why Denji (the protagonist) is the way he is. She provides Denji with the comfort he never had, giving him food, “affection”, a place to live in, and more. She does all this just to get Chainsaw Man’s heart, as that is the thing everyone is looking for in the main story, the main plot is that every single person/woman that Denji meets, ends up just using/manipulating him to get Chainsaw Man’s heart to get his power.
When Makima sees that a girl is genuinely interested in Denji, she kills that girl, so that Denji’s first and only option is her, she is manipulating, grooming and SA’ing him, just to be able to get his heart (literally). Most people like her just because of how attractive she is, but that is only one of her tactics to manipulate people, being attractive and having charisma, this also shows how a lot of people think that women can’t be perpetrators, and that men can’t be the victims.
This is a serious issue, because many people tend to try and justify or defend Makima’s actions, something completely ignorant to do, of course you can like Makima as a character, but a completely different thing is justifying the fact that she has groomed Denji. This leads to Denji’s traumas being overlooked or him being seen as “just a gooner” when he is in fact just a victim of sexual assault who probably suffers from OCD or hypersexuality, both being disorders that leave impactful marks on the victim’s life, usually making it extremely difficult for them to live normally or to maintain long-lasting relationships.
