Which one should i get? or do i get both?

I really wanna get to the Elder Scrolls series, but i dont know if i wanna go through all the games in order or should I skip to the ones I wanna play (Which is Elder Scrolls lll Morrowind and Skyrim). I just really wanna play that but if playing through the games will help me understand Morrowind and Skyrim I will. I heard Morrowind more Free-range, but still had storyline (im not sure what that said storyline is), but i really wanna play. same with Skyrim, i heard they're lot more mods, and i think i would goof around with in Skyrim. I was surprised to find out that Morrowind is a lot less expensive than Skyrim, While Skyrim is 40$ on Steam. Morrowind is only 15$. i know morrowind came out in 2002, and skyrim is newer and probably less laggy. if morrowind has a good storyline and good game play i could really care less about graphics or lag. i dont know, should i just morrowind and forget Skyrim, or do i get both? Pleassee helpp me!
