Super detailed review of every tma episode cause i'm a nerd (will update)

This will include spoilers and references to later seasons, if you haven't finished the show yet and don't want to get spoiled i wouldn't recommend reading this :]

MAG 1 - Angler Fish

Unironically season one might be my absolute favourite season. Tho I do feel like Jon in this episode is like a full different person than in all the other ones, but ig that's pretty common for pilot episodes.

I feel this episode does a great job at introducing this universe to us, without actually giving it all away. It poses the questions that'll keep listeners hooked through to later seasons. What are the statements, really? What happened to gertrude robinson? Why does Jon hate Martin so much?

As for the actual statement, i feel like it's a really great way to begin. Personally, I think it's pretty scary, though the contrast between jon talking as himself versus jon reading the statement is kind of hilarious. (I am a firm believer of the headcannon that the mechanisms were his band in the past.) It is later uncovered that the angler fish is a creature of the Stranger, it feels like everything comes full circle when you find that out. Also the whole uncanny valley of the angler fish / the stranger is genuinely terrifying especially when you like listening to horror podcasts late at night and keep seeing unhuman faces in the shadows lmao.

I love how season one jon will put his heart and sould into performing a statement and then give the most obvious evidence that it's true only to immedeatly dissmiss it for literally no reason other than he.
The fact that this guy is also jonny d'ville will never not be funny

In conclusion, i think i'd give this story a 7/10. It's a great introduction to the show, an okay story that does manage to creep up your spine a bit. But i feel like it lacks something, I don't know

"Sasha took the liberty of running it through some editing programs, though. And increasing the contrast appears to reveal the outline of a long, thin hand, roughly at what would be waist level on a male of averege height. I find it oddly hard to shake off the impression that it's beckoning" Oh you sweet stupid man, you have absolutely no idea whats coming
