my cat is sitting on the windowsill. she's tensed up- looking out the window at something i can't see. her tail flicks and her mouth twitches.
she rose, arched her back in a stretch and yawn. and reseated herself. she looks over to me and mrps- she trills and hops over onto my desk, stretching as she walks and curls up between my arms, licking me as i type. she leans on my left arm and my chest as she lazily gazes around the room. i pause my typing briefly to scratch the side of her face.
my computer's fans blow gently in a droning hum. my fingers clack on the keys. behind my laptop, a small speaker plays a familiar piano composition. it's otherwise nearly silent.
outside the window, a dense layer of fog separates the distances of the trees. an increasing gradient of light gray that mixes with the sky. i can see farther than earlier- the foreground is clearer and the distant power lines are visible. earlier, i couldn't even see the peak pf the cypress dome.
sitting here, my eyes feel heavier than usual. ruby breathes softly in my arms, and the fog outside mutes what is usually an intensely bright sunshine outside. everything, even inside my bedroom, seems to be coated in this haze of light gray.
ruby moves her chin to rest on my forearm and sighs. i scratch beneath her chin and feel her gentle purr. i can't usually hear her purr, but i've learned to feel her throat. she's cozy and happy.
my head behind my eyes feels ever so slightly tense with pain. a light headache that doesn't really bother.
i feel i am finished writing. 9:32am, 12/7/2025
