Genuine question about orangutans.

I've always wondered why people undermined the smarts of a orangutan because of its "funny" looks. I personally have been studying orangutans since 2023. They are such amazing creatures. its sad that they are so undermined. one main thing about orangutans that make them such amazing creatures is how observant they are and how quickly they understand human mannerisms! one example being the famous orangutan named Rakus that had healed himself with a medicinal plant to heal his wound that was on his face. he was the first observed orangutan to use a medical plant to heal his wound. yet even with discoveries like that, people still dumb them down to stupid apes for their amusement. I wonder if it was mainstream media that had made them seem that way. either way, I love orangutans and it isn't in an entirely big deal. its just that it kinda confuses me when someone says "ew" or laugh at the mention of a orangutan. anyways BYEEE
