Babel -book review-

Babel, or the Necessity of Violence

by R.F Kuang

i'll try my best to exclude any spoilers from the review but I will say this.. the alternative book title (aka the Necessity of violence) makes alot more sense untill the last quarter of the book.

this book explores themes of racism, discrimination and it's largely focused on colonialism, that was right up my alley since i love politics, but a friend of mine mentioned that her favourite aspect was the translations, since the main characters are translators, i got to dive into the wonders of languages.

as for the representations -which are important in this context since the MCs being people of color is importmant when talking about colonialism and POCs struggles in oxford in the 1830s- I can't speak for african or east asian people or indiansmsince I don't have the means to evaluate their culture but as an Arab Muslim I really loved the way my religon was represented so accurately.. APPROVED.

I would recommend if you:

-are a litretature/ translations student

- are interested in politics

-hate englishmen -don' we all?-

-love found family tropes that end traggically

- if you're a maraduers fan.. Robin, Ramy, Letty and Victoire remind me alot of the maraduers in terms of their dynamics and tragic ending.
