yesterday i made a vow to quit doomscrolling short form content.
i realize that my attention span being as bad as it is is not good and mindlessly scrolling through dumb stuff is NOT good for me.
I think i spend way more time than i realize on doing absolutely nothing. Like yes, scrolling through Instagram Reels every now and then gets me a big laugh but that can't just be my default when I'm bored.
it's kinda like smoking. i pointed that out to my friend because she just kept scrolling through shorts everytime we had a break and could use our phones.
she was also doing it while i was talking to her smh.
though today is when I realized how truly bad it was.
i found myself doomscrolling without realising it more than twice today.
it was honestly kind of terrifying. I didn't even realize it was happening.
if I'm gonna have a vice, it better not be doomscrolling maybe something like smoking or alcholism is a lot more romantic.
time is the only resource, and with school it really feels like I'm lacking in that. also mindlessly stimulating myself is no fun either.

Hi! I quitted Instagram a year ago, and in youtube I dont watch short videos.
First be aware that your doomscrolling may be the cause of avoiding stress or even everyday thoughts, it is important to make your mind a safe place first. I recommend affirmations, since in the long run your mind becomes more positive.
Also, doomscrolling happens because we often need rest, not replacement with other activities, going for a walk, even sitting still is a good idea. If its difficult for you, you could try with some music first, try with WIFI off.
It will cause a bit of anxiety first, physical activity is often good for that, if you can do it, it will be nice ;)
Don´t beat yourself for the phone addiction, apps ARE MADE to be addictive, which is sad.
Also, other addictions aren´t "romantic", they are stressful, so pls try to avoid them. In the long run they will only make your health worse. Your health is important.

This is what I realized yesterday too. I only watch short formed, scrolling content on youtube but I really don’t want to delete the app since I watch long form videos more than anything on there

bcs I realised the same thing a few days ago and thats why I deleted both youtube and snapchat and that made me realise how much time it actually used up of my day :\
I may get really bored throughout the day but Im feeling way better about myself :D

This is the exact reason why I stopped using ig and uninstalled it from my phone. I would uncounsciously scroll on reels and I didn't like that. Same with tiktok.
It's exactly how you say with these apps, you may get a good laugh here and there but then you don't realize just how much time you've wasted mindlessly scrolling.
When I uninstalled ig for the first time I noticed just how often and without intent I would press the empty space (where my ig app was) and how bad my habit rlly was.
I still sometimes download tiktok on occasion but only when I really want that specific laugh that you only get from tiktoks and such. When you download it after not using it for months your feed genuinly is funny for like 20 minutes. Then I uninstall again.
I used to have my tiktok on my ipad with a time limit of one hour. Which worked for quite some time but ultimately I ended up developing all the same bad habit I used to have before.
Now I only have twitter installed but I am considering deleting that too. The only thing stopping me is the fandoms I am in especially when I watch something that comes out weekly. Always fun to see peoples reaction and thoughts and art.
Oh I forgot to mention the youtube trap. Beware of youtube shorts I haven't yet found solution to youtube bcs even after using it in my phones browser youtube shorts still tend to get me. (Tho at least it doesn't open them right away like the app does. You have to click on a short yourself).
I did miss artists on ig so I'm signed up on my laptops browser and that works pretty well for me.
