A question to those who see history lessons

What do you guys know about the Ottoman Empire? I'm really really curious as someone who lives in Türkiye.

They really do not teach much about it here in the USA. It's mainly mentioned in history textbooks and usually in passing throughout. Most students first learn of its existence through lessons regarding World War I because our curriculum is neatly oversimplified into a few main wars involving the USA. Fortunately for Turks, we mostly skip over and ignore the late Ottoman Empire's history, so we assume Turkey (or Turkiye, as your president renamed it in English) just magically appeared on the map.
Our image of it is oversimplified too. We just think mustached men with giant turbans, then all the stereotypical Arabian Nights stuff like hookahs, belly dancers, scimitars, carpets, etc.

Oh my god that's horrible (We're secular but rn our president is making drastic turns. Trying to make children lean into Islam more. Though it's absolutely not working.)

I am too. Though there's still a huge part of the folk that support him (conservatives) or cults. But it is really hard for him to win the next elections I think.
