KH Nobodies got me thinking

Ok so somthing I gotta talk about becuase it really got me thinking. I was watching a streamer on Twitch, CrystAAHHL, and she made an off hand comment about Sora in 358/2 Days. She mostly said it as a joke saying "Of course it's Sora's Nobody that would do this", (fight for his identity), and it got me think, she's kinda right. Why is it that out of all the OrgXIII members, that it was Xion and Roxas who fight so hard to be their own person, and not everyone else???

Well, ironiclly, I was questioning it till I started writing it down, then it made sense. I think I figured out the reason for this, or at least, my interpetation of the situation.

So ok, Lemme explain my questioning a bit. On paper Axel and Lea are 2 separate people. Axel obviously being the Nobody to Lea. But Axel still has memories as Lea, and Lea has memories as Axel. Both Axel and Lea have practiclly identical personalites and Axel doesn't change his personality or mentality at all from Lea. It even goes into a point where Lea start to go by Axel even when he's re-completed in KH3.

So with this logic you can say that Axel's identity was trying to be like Lea. And theoretically, Axel would have his own heart to be his own person, but becuase he wanted to be Lea again, Axel didn't become his own person. He retuned as Lea, leaving no heart behind for Axel.

However now this logic gets somewhat confusing when you consider other OrgXIII members into this, epically ones who quite possibly don't have their memories, such as Marluxia. It's so heavly implied Marluxia doesn't remeber himself as Lauriam and yet it seems like he accepted his re-compleation, despite not really expressing the desire for his old existence.

I would also say the same about Larxene and how her personality is widly diffrent from Elrena, but I would assume that was only due to darkness. And it was also implied she was just there to be with Lauriam/Marluxia, so we could simply rule this out as her not really wanting to be Larxene.

It could also get confusing when you might consider someone like Demyx who just stays a Nobody just for the heck of it. It makes me think if someone like him really wants to be human again and revert back to his old slef, or he's in a situation like Roxas where Demyx has become a new identiy.

Ok, now that I think about it, thats totally possible since it is shown unlike the other Org members (and Xemnas) he's the only one who knows Nobodies have their own hearts. I don't think we know enough Demyx for me to apply this theroy onto him.

But even with this conclusion I've come up with, it still makes me wonder why is it Roxas and Xion had such a yearning to exist. Sora's memories I feel can't be the reason for it. Everytime I go back to this idea and just wonder why Marluxia accepted his completion and not Roxas/Xion.

i think that roxas and xion's desire to be their own people stems from how unique they are compared to the other nobodies.

for xion, it comes from the fact that she isn't exactly a nobody in the first place. she's a replica created from sora's memories for the sole purpose of being a keyblade wielder. she was never supposed to even form an identity in the first place, it was roxas and axel's kindness towards her that lead to her forming an identity seperate from sora.

for roxas, it feels harder to pinpoint, but it seems to be a result of his very unique existence. he was created from a body containing multiple hearts, took the appearance of someone that wasn't the body he originated from, and was somehow able to exist after the original body was brought back. he's an anomaly in every sense similar to namine, and i think that these things in addition to not having sora's memories (because sora was still walking around with them when roxas was formed) helped him become his own person.

as for the other members, i agree it seems odd that none of them express similar desires to roxas and xion but i think that the reason why essentially boils down to: the others do not have the same unique properties that roxas and xion have. they're already in their "original bodies" and for the most part, still have memories of their human lives. the only thing differentiating them from their original selves is the lack of a heart. as for larxene and marluxia, while they don't remember their human lives i think they still retain the mental impact of what happened to them and it influences their behavior. so basically, since the rest of org13 have the same bodies and are in some way still connected to their past selves, there's no real desire to become their own person as they are more or less the same people, just... more evil. lol

sorry this comment is so long lol i just thought this was a super interesting thing to bring up and i love analyzing these games in my brain so this felt like a good oppurtunity to yap about my thoughts xP

You're totally good, long comments don't bother me and I love dissecting KH lore so mucchhh. But, yea, I didn't really consider how Marluxia and Larxene could still have that connection to their pervious bodies, despite not rembering their past too much.

I also tend to forget that Roxas was able to co-exist with Sora lolol. But I didn't think about how in a sense both Sora AND Axel could've have effected how Roxas thinks or even desired to be his own person, including Xion.

I guess just wanting to eat ice cream and hang out with your best freinds was enough for the both of them to desire their own sense of being. It would espcially help if they really felt like they didn't have any connection to Sora at all throught his memories. :P
