Music - Goth Metal album review, 'Deus Necare' by NEURAL DUST

After listening to Neural Dust’s ‘Deus Necare’, Latin for ‘To kill God’ or a Nietzschean ‘God is Dead’ & then listening to their previous avant-garde tech terror debut album ‘Human Face Machine’, you can confidently hear that Neural Dust have moved into a more musically intricate, gothic and industrial metal style, a decent distance away from their haunting progressive metal debut.

‘Human Face Machine’, a concept album about the danger of runaway Tech and its various faces of death, will always remain with me as a brilliant debut but ‘Deus Necare’ is its stronger, more violent Cousin.

‘Deus Necare’ is simply meatier in sound, with a solid brutality in theme reminiscent of ‘God Bless the Meek’ on HFM, one of my favourite tracks on that album for its hammer to the gut feel musically and lyrically.

My thoughts:

Opening track of Deus Necare:
1. ‘Dust to Dust’, easily conveys the horror of War and the disparity between those thrown into the meat grinder compared to the Elites, it is straight to the point and the most accessible song on the EP. The beauty is also fitting use of Charlie Chaplin’s speech from ‘The Great Dictator’ and it sadly shows that our World has just come full circle towards a new fascism in just under one hundred years.

2. ‘Anguish’ continues the theme of Us & Them, you are either walking meat or a predator of the meat. A gritty awesome track.

3. ‘No Sanctuary’, is my personal favourite off of ‘Deus Necare’ as the track has this existentialist, objective Horror, and the nightmare of being is expressed perfectly both sonically and lyrically. Heavy, chunky sound is glorious.

4. ‘Close My Heart’, to me is reminiscent of Rob Zombie gothic dramatics and the feminine backing harmonies lend to me wanting to watch a Classic Universal horror film. Vampiric romance, fallen castles and a corpse reanimated via lightning electricity. It's Alive!!! My second most favourite track. Simply marvelous in scope.

Overall the direction of Neural Dust with their latest, ‘Deus Necare’ is like a new audio drug on the street...Give us more!
