word count

chat i'm SO cooked. and chopped. AND unc!!

i'm pulling an all-nighter to get a handle on my 1000 essays and i am actually grinding through this one i've got where i'm using a play i like that's been translated into english multiple times and i'm doing a casestudy on one of the characters, generally how he's characterised differently based on the semanic linguistic choices made in each translation!! it's actually been going really well and it's the same play i'm working on my own translation of and have been obsessed with for like 5 years (and am also doing my thesis on whoops) and so like, i'm grinding through it.

and i've just now realized that i am going to be WAY over word count like. some how i budgeted ~600 words/body text (1800 total) and that made sense to me for an essay with MAX 2000 words total?!! STUPID STUPID STUPID!!! i swear i'm usually good at math i must've just slipped and fallen and smoked crack right when i was calculating my word budget during my outlining process. FUCK. like i've outlined it to be 600/block with 800 total left over somehow for my intro and conclusion. that will literally put me 600 over do we think my prof will notice.

i have to hand it in hard copy so immediately that's helpful but also like, 600 extra words double spaced is like, 2-3 pages extra that is WAY more than he wants. and its a big class too like. and as much as the essay is flying out of me and i'm enjoying writing it, i'm also sipping a gin rn and am severely exhausted so i actually do not think it is all that good! because if it was phenomenal groundbreaking technically perfection i would be able to get away with 3 extra pages!! but since it will probably be a little questionable... i am COOKED.

the way i see it, i have 2 options. i can ask him if i am allowed to go over word count and explain that i outlined for a roughly 10 page paper not 7/8... but that would mean i would have to go over it HARD and deliver and probably fix some stuff i don't wanna deal with... BTW it's due on thursday. OR OR OR i can try my best to cut it down and probably make it worse in the process and maybe only be like 200 words over... AGH IDK

like i've only been at university for 3 months at this point i have no ide what profs actually think about word count. some of them give word count maxes like this one, but only want the papers hard copy so like, it's not like they're counting,,, and some only have page counts which is much more reasonable. but like, i've heard that my friends have turned in essays that were above/below word count and they just weren't graded and i'm not going to do well enough on my exam next week to not also have my essay graded, yknow?

UGH help idk what to do like ig i'll try and cut it down but i'm comparing 3 texts it's a lot of quotes i literally need all my words in there wtffff
