Journal Entry #8
I got my latest mission briefing this morning. We’re gonna be hunting a serpent that was spotted by the shore. We’re to get all our prep done today then head out tomorrow! I hired 2 beginners for this quest to fill our group to 5. I’ve never seen the sea up close, so this shall be my first Privateering gig too. This will go into the books as one of Charlie's greatest hunts! Write more tomorrow.
Journal Entry #9
Today is the day. We boarded the boat heading out to the most recent spot. Found out Phill doesn’t have proper sea legs or stomach for this kind of thing. Told yah Phil, a night of drinking helps build sea legs, I feel fantastic! I’m pumped to see what kind of beast we’re fighting today. The others are worrying about it being some leviathan or large squid. From what I’ve heard however, the beast has teeth and scales. So I doubt it’ll be anything bigger than a serpent. We, or rather I, fought a large spore beast on the way home last month! This will be a piece of cake.
Journal Entry #10
Well that was indeed NOT a piece of cake. The damn thing was a sea serpent, but it was older than the boat we floated in on. The beast was gargantuan, we couldn’t tell what was waves and what was tail! Thankfully I’m no slouch with ranged weaponry. I used the ballista on board to fire a couple bolts into the beast. Phil used his bow and launched barrage after barrage of magical arrows. Craig used his spells and the 2 newcomers followed with weaker magic spells. That beast didn’t know what hit it. Until it did, and sent most of the boat overboard. I survived by the skin of my teeth, grabbed onto a shroud line and flung myself onto the serpent. After plunging my sword into the beast’s throat, it was felled. I had to swim to the closest wreckage to catch my breath and wait for the rescue teams to come collect us. It wasn’t until we reached shore that I learned Phil and the 2 newcomers were split in twain by the serpents teeth. It was just Craig and I left. The whole crew, reduced to 2. I didn’t enjoy that thought.

We debriefed with the guild, and were invited to go to the funeral. I went, Craig didn’t, said he had better things to attend to. The whole procession was nice. Met some of the family members. Not all of them were happy seeing me, but I don’t blame them. I’d hate to see this jovial mug after hearing what happened too. I’ll miss you Phil.
Journal Entry #12
Craig left. Said he’s sick of adventuring. How he hates seeing his closest friends die. I don’t blame him, but he blames me. Says I was the one who killed Carver, and it's my fault those rookies didn't make it. In my defense, those rookies knew what they were getting into. They chose to join us on the quest. And I had the opportunity to save them or slay the beast. He can blame me all he wishes. It was I who ultimately saved his life and my own. The beast would have eaten us long before we reached shore with 4 people. Guess I’m on my own now.
Journal Entry #13
The guild assigned me to another group. I got a reputation with the guild now. Apparently I’m the guy people die with when they join me. It’s not an unfair assessment but I disagree nonetheless. These guys were a rather rough looking bunch, burly and scarred. We’re going to be picking nothing but hunting quests. I’m not afraid, fear fears me after all! Update with quest details tomorrow.
Journal Entry #14
Our first slay quest has been selected. A quest to hunt a large bear that’s been bothering a hunting lodge. Nothing too difficult, I just hope the lads won’t stab me in the back.
Update: We made it to the lodge and are already seeing signs of bears. Big paw prints, fur on fences and trees, large gashes on toppled cabin doors. I don’t think this is just 1 bear, if it is it ain’t no regular bear.
Update 2: We got a cabin for free and we’re going to be heading out at night to look for it. According to the others I’m gonna play bait. Since I can’t see in the dark they want me to stand outside near the tree line with a torch. Not a fan of this plan, gotta say. I am happy to oblige however since this will make a good story. Let’s see what happens.
