Not really. It is only applying to users under the age of 16. Starting on December 10, 2025, if you we're born after December 10, 2009 (then counting each day, meaning 2010 users can use social media again by the time the first Gen Alphas turn 13 on January 1, 2026), you are not allowed to use social media in Australia. This is being unaffected in the US, as they still got the COPPA law where you gotta be 13 to create a majority of Socials (except Vimeo, Flickr, and Rumble).
Don't know why, what did the 13, 14, and 15 year olds do? It has to be the under-13's that caused this or something, and the parents that never monitored their actions.
And Roblox and other big corporation's ID verification stuff is why I have moved to old web revivals like SpaceHey (except YouTube and Reddit). Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat is not my cup of tea at all. They run better on older hardware anyway, so I don't care if Meta goes bankrupt or anything at this point even though they never will.
If I do move away from YouTube, I will probably go to Dailymotion or BitView (and use Invidious or something for YouTube content), and I will either switch from Reddit to SpaceHey or Reddit to Old Lemmy World.
