earlier, my dad was watching stranger things, he was complaining about how “gay” will acted in it, and said “it wouldn’t be a show in 2025, 2024, or even 2023 unless they added a gay character i guess, forcing it into everyone’s lives”, at that time i was in my parent’s room which is next to the living room, so obviously i overheard him, queer people have only recently started getting added to things, there were a few movies back in the early 2000s that had queer characters, or just movies revolving around being queer, that was when it started to be more normalized, if you can even say that, that was only 25, almost 26 years ago, and when you compare that to how long queer people have had to suffer because they were seen as unnatural or a threat, it’s really not a lot of time. queer people don’t get included in a lot of stuff, and people still will see them as unnatural or disgusting because they were raised to think that, my dad isn’t homophobic, i’m a lesbian and he’s fine with that, yet he still complains about queer people becoming more publicly common, (they were always common, they just have had to hide it) more normalized. complaining about people who’ve been looked down upon and judged almost everywhere for HUNDREDS of years, finally getting the inclusivity they deserve isn’t okay in my book, the world needs queer people, not everyone is going to be the same, and the world wouldn’t be as we know it without queer people, we’ve always existed, and we always will, so why judge it? judging something won’t make it leave. this goes for everyone else who’s something considered “different” from the norm, everyone else who’s been looked down upon at some point for being different, for looking different, acting different, anything different, we all bleed the same red, so why judge? why spread hate? we’re all humans, and no one is superior to anyone, everyone has looked at the same moon, seen the same sun, breathed the same air, and lived on the same planet. people that are considered different from the norm, are always going to exist.
inclusivity is really important.
