I think therefore I am

The statement never sat right with me. One's existence is not a universal truth, as it is only within our perception that the concept of existence itself may be present. A person could live their entire life without ever formally acknowledging that they exist, yet they would still think and solve complex problems (hunt and build shelters)

his own statement being contradictory .. , lol
if whatever i'm experiencing right now is fake this is the best fake reality i've ever been in

Well that's valid. Luckily though, experiences don't have to be fake, but they don't have to be real either. People are just too focused on meaning. Discovery is worth looking for; the desire to assign a specific meaning to a man-made concept, in my opinion, is not

i think descartes is saying that the simple fact of a thought being there is already a way of existing. u can doubt so far that everything would become uncertain : senses, world, laws of nature.

and if you keep going like that you end up with nihilism or solipsism (which are not very useful for scientific research)

but descartes realised that the thinking itself is always there. cos even doubting is still a kind of thinking. so the movement of the mind, the way it shapes something inside into an idea, becomes the one thing that can’t be doubted (cos as u think it u acknowledge its presence).

so he proposes that thought (and its undoubtedness) can serve as the common ground on which all further reasoning can be built.

and i mean everyone has thoughts, right? or at least some lower non-verbal levels of cognition.

p.s. tho this approach created a new line of questioning: is cognitive world the same as physical world and how does they connect. but i think that it’s a bit different from what u are questioning in ur post ✨

I'm just trying to see what's outside the walls. I don't necessarily doubt it. I simply refuse to acknowledge the statement within the confines of what we perceive as existence. A solid viewpoint on the matter is also a limitation, whether to doubt it or to agree it's still within the proposed point

well .. that’s also valid

i mean i love transcendental meditation cos it feels like u are melting into the world and ur *self* stops existing for a moment

and after that u just asking yourself - what is real actually if i can bend reality with my perception alone?

because the concept of reality itself is quite vague. what do we acknowledge as real? why do we even need to do so? why do we care about the reality?

and i remember seeing a quote smth like: if what u are seeing is just a dream, do enjoy that dream?

after that i tend to think that all the questioning are cool as far as u enjoy them, as well as any other things u do in life
