People have watered down the meaning of "emo"

All I see online is just that to emo is you just have to listen to the music and follow the politics, and this just removes all the main aspects of emo. If you want to actually be emo you need to understand the history emo and all the waves, you need to support your local scene that does any wave of music, you need to try and immerse yourself in the culture. Just because you listen to a bunch of mainstream metalcore and pop punks bands and maybe one smaller band, with your basic leftist values that doesn't mean you're emo.
