microblog #00 - keeping in touch and why i think i suck at it/letting social media go

I dunno actually, lol. It's like second nature to me. Sometimes I think about friends I haven't been in touch with in so long, and I'm embarrassed to show up like time stood still and everything is the same as it was.

Maybe I present myself as the extrovert friend who's always hitting people up for events, then settle into my actual mood as the 'yeah, I'm shutting myself in for a couple of months' type of person.

To me, friendships work better with a certain distance, and it seems that in the 2020s, people really value the availability social media created. I've been dealing with my FOMO by not using them at all, and I ditched Spotify for a digital audio player, meaning I've lost the way of the ancient art of scrobbling music on Last.fm (the best 'social network' right after SpaceHey).

I feel relieved and ready for when the social media bubble ends up bursting, and more people come to the same conclusion as me.

It's better for you to curate things for yourself than be spoon-fed everything. It makes you an individual and brings out the human in you. Not that there's anything wrong with interacting with the technology we as a society created, but corporations can use it however and wherever they like, and we end up with stuff being forced down our throats without us even questioning it.
