I just found out ylang flowers are sourced from my country and idk how to feel about it

I'm putting this in this category cus this is about perfume.

Anyway, i was looking for a replacement of my current perfume (Plein Soleil by Yves Rocher), it smells amazing but the scent doesnt last, like at all. I started wearing it last month and the scents fades so fast and i had to reapply it so often i basically buy a bottle every month, and for a while i was wondering if i wasnt just used to the smell but i even asked my friend if she could smell it, and if she even noticed i started wearing perfume to begin with, and she said no

I do trust her though bc she doesnt put on anything scented, she really just has toothpaste and body soap and probably laundry soap to add the slightest scent and calls it a day, so... yea.

Now i was searching for a dupe/replacement, but for that i have to look at the notes, and its tuberose, ylang ylang and sandalwood. So i dont think much of it and go search for another dupe. I find the My way - Giorgio Armani and see the scents are similar, ylang ylang and tuberose, except it has vanilla (which is a huge plus to me) and citrus-y scent with mango.

And i go look at the details and i see that the ylang flower is from the Comoros?? (if you don't know what it is, thats okay, its basically an archipelago in the Indian ocean between Madagascar and the African continent, its very small and has a tropical climate. Mayotte, one of the island, is legally under French rule and gives access to jasmin flower for example) And when i saw this, i went back to Yves Rocher's website, and i see that the country isnt even mentionned, they just say its from a far away volcanic island in the indian ocean.

So the first thing that comes in mind is, why is the Comoros GPD (gross domestic product) so low ($1,35billion) if we're selling flowers to big brands like Giorgio Armani? Obviously i get that for a country as small as the Comoros, and with so little ppl (less than a million) but like, damn... cus the people there arent thriving on money, so im like, maybe the country is poor and cant produce anything

And the first thing that comes to mind is maybe we're experiencing a similar case to nestle's way of getting their "ethically sourced" coffee beans (if you dont know abt this, nestle basically offered farmers to change the type of coffee beans theyre selling in exchange of big money and long term contract, from idk to arabica? but since it isnt native from this area, its pretty high maintenance and naturally expensive for the farmers. But since nestle is the only company that will buy those coffee beans, they buy the beans for so cheap that its causing farmers to sell at loss. Changing back to what they were producing before is out of the table because it would be beyond what they can afford and that is causing extreme poverty in a region that depends on farming :( )

And after studying conscious fashion for a whole trimester i was like damn...

Then it came to mind that maybe we aren't poor, but rather we're in a dictatorship, so its probably going all in the military forces that are there to maintain oppression.

So yeah, idk how to feel about this. Should i keep buying those perfumes? Imma start by maybe test that new perfume and see if i like it
