Blue Ember | Entry #1

“Blue ember. A fitting name for a thing of such nature.” Rill held the vial against the lamp, it's containing a small stone pulsing with a blue light, almost as if alive. A blue ember, waiting for a gust of wind to feed its fury, to feed its flames, waiting to burst out.

Created by combining gunpowder and a rare blue crystal, crushed into a powder, which is then pressed together to form a stone, a cinder like substance. The nature of the ember is volatile, emitting a faint pulsing glow. When undisturbed, the crystal is quite fragile, however if ground up, the particles are, under certain temperatures, acting like a magnet. As a result, the crystal, separated by the gunpowder is applying high pressure to the rest of the mixture. If heightened to a certain point, the pressure generates enough heat to ignite the gunpowder. If not careful, it can combust unexpectedly, creating an explosion, followed by a blue tinted smoke.
The blue hue of the smoke is created from the crystal particles which aren’t flammable, but are acting as a catalyst for the explosion. Heat reverses the “magnetic" effect of the crystal, making it disperse everywhere, sending deadly shards flying in all directions.
