my mom and I were fighting and she just went quiet, stared into my eyes and said "everyone who says progress over winning is just faking it because they have achieved what they wanted and or they don't want to achieve anything! even if there's a more hardworking person out there, if they don't win, they'll be called a loser and if there's a talented person who has not done much but wins, they'll be put up on a pedestal. if the class topper fails, he's still a failure and if the loser kid gets A grade, he's the winner. it's all about winning. it's all about who's first and never about who worked hard because ppl don't see behind the scenes."
and now I don't know which ideology to follow. progress over perfection or striving for being the best.

It is absolutely progress over perfection. That top scorer could get into a huge uni and be below average. The most successful people in the world are competing against eachother but the most successful person is competing against their self. My point is you can compare yourself to those around you and try your best to beat them but it’s no more effective than comparing to yourself, and eventually you will be better than those around you but if you stop there you will fall behind. The idea of perfection is impossible, any case where you are achieving it is a misunderstanding. Progression all the way
