Things I Love Right Now

Games

  • Hello Kitty Island Adventure
  • Final Fantasy XVII Remake Intergrade
  • Prince of Persia The Lost Crown
  • Alice: Madness Returns

I recently got a Steam Deck and it's such a great replacement for doomscrolling on social media. I can scroll for hours on Instagram and not remember a single video I watched. Complete utter garbage waste of my life. I hate feeling so helpless. I feel dumber, slower, and more impulsive than I was just a year ago. It makes me sick thinking about how my attention span and mental quickness has been stolen away from me. FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! But now, I've cracked the code. One reason why doomscrolling is so addicting is because it has such a low barrier to entry. Low effort, easy dopamine. Gaming is similar, but healthier! Especially with a handheld gaming console. I can easily pick it up wherever I am, and after playing for an hour, I feel satisfied and I'm ready to get out of my room and go do something else. Games are also more mentally stimulating and force you to use your brain. So fuck the system and go replace doomscrolling with something healthier today!!

Books

  • Ethics 101 by Brian Boone

Just brushing up on my basics. I'm also trying to write a little each day. I keep confusing the difference between act and rule utilitarianism/consequentialism.

Let's learn!

Act Utilitarianism states that we should maximize happiness based on the consequences of each individual action.

Rule Utilitarianism states that we should maximize happiness based on general rules or principles that work best overall.

For example, let's apply these theories to the classic trolley problem: "Pull the lever and kill one person, or don't pull the lever and kill five."

Pull the lever: Act utilitarianism. Based on the context of this individual action, killing less people would maximize happiness.

Don't pull the lever: Rule Utilitarianism. As a general rule, it is wrong to kill people. Not killing people usually creates more happiness than killing people, so we chose not to pull the lever.

Aggretsuko

I watch this anime in Brazilian Portuguese dub, and I personally think it's better than the English dub. HAIDA!!!! MY MANNN!! This show is genuinely so incredible, I thought it was just going to be some lazy slop for kids, but I was so taken aback by the great writing and how the show tackles adult themes. It's really interesting to learn about how this generation of Japanese young people are dealing with life through the lens of this cute, funny, crazy story. Love it so much. It's also a great pairing with Hello Kitty Island Adventure because many of the characters show up in the game and ASDHASDA I'm so excited I want HAIDA! MY MAN! MY FELLA! MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE!! I want him to come to my island and I wanna run around and do quests for him. :3
