Personally I honestly don’t like it, seems way too intrusive for a platform mainly used by underaged people. For those who are not informed about this recent update for the game Roblox, they had added a new feature that either asks for your ID or face due to a recent huge complaint about the horrible child safety moderation and the amount of children that had gotten in danger from predators on the app. Including their recent cease and desist orders to the known predator catcher ‘Schlep’ who’s main goal was to make child predators face justice, not to mention that this person had actually gotten a number of predators in jail, why was he banned and sent a possible lawsuit threat? Well it was apparently because the Roblox legal system thought that he was a worse threat than child predators for trying to keep Roblox safe. With Roblox just now facing backlash and having a change in their reputation, they now had made users who had not verified their age not able to chat at all.
Now, why do I not like this along with many other people? Well:
-The age verification system is powered by AI. And as most of us know, AI is very flawed when it comes to these things.
-As I mentioned earlier, this is way too intrusive and personal for a game that’s mostly used by underaged individuals.
-This will make many users most likely leave the game completely, seeing as you now need to put in private information merely just for communication access.
So yeah, I honestly dislike this update. And with all of the recent events surrounding Roblox, it feels like you’re watching the app’s falloff in real time. Would be really interested to see any of your guy’s opinions about the controversy. Stay safe and have a good day/night!
