THESIS PROJJJJJECTTTTTT !!!111!!! Nostalgia Blog Week 1: Buttons and Wizards

Introducing:: THESIS BLOG !!!

I am going to start blogging every Monday for my thesis course (Monday as a motivator, and if I get into it, I'll do it whenever!)

My thesis revolves around nostalgia and the intense customization of our childhood which eventually transforms into a controlled, simplified expression as we grow. Spacehey/mySpace, to me, represents a time where self-expression was through the roof. Though I never actively participated in mySpace's prime, I watched from the sidelines as a young child and am now able to simulate the experience through spacehey. Customization is a key element of these kinds of websites and you must alter coding yourself to include your own personal touch to your page. As we come into adulthood, I notice that this attention to aesthetic and personalization is sort of lost as we work in fields that rely on our ability to fit into a certain skillset in the workforce.

Hopefully I will obtain some friends in this journey, especially other college students/alumni who align with this experiment. My thesis heavily revolves around friendship and it's power, and how it is the most important thing to most in childhood!

Today I'm focusing on buttons! Buttons for some reason trigger many nostalgic memories for me that I am trying to pull out through these button artworks. Let me know your button stories! I'm watching Wizards of Waverly Place from the beginning (mostly during my time working in my studio) to get myself in the 2000s mindset, my key focus for this project since that's when I grew up. I remember only watching WoWP in the middle of the night when I slept on the couch as a child (I didn't have a room for a while), so I was never really attached to it. But now, I'm noticing how much this show was more relatable to me than the other shows on at the time. I know that now there's an abundance of media about mixed-race families, but back then I remember being very distraught with the lack of it. See, this blog is really bringing out my memory analysis! Next, I'm analyzing the nostalgic joy that dog's bring me :)
