Garden planning for next year, building on what was planted this past year. You better believe it's a shit load of work. From starting seeds indoors, to planting, to garden maintenance, to harvest, to preserving, to storage. You simply have no idea. But it is absolutely worth it. I am also extremely aware that this is completely unrelatable to practically everyone on this site.
This past year the following were planted - including pollinator plants:
- Tomatoes (several varieties; striped roma, rainbow, banana legs)
- Chili peppers (several varieties, red habanero, orange habanero, nazgul's breakfast, sriracha, jalapeno, Carolina reaper, dragons tongue)
- Squash (acorn and hubbard) - 2026 goal
- Corn (sweet) -- fucking raccoons ruined some of these.
- Pumpkin (pie)
- Pickling cucumbers
- Zucchini
- Potatoes (yukon gold)
- Green beans
- Green peas
- blue peas
- Cabbage (green and purple)
- Brussels Sprouts
- Carrots
- Asparagus (expect a proper yield in 2026)
- Beets (yellow and red)
- Radish (Daikon and red)
- Lettuce (green)
- Garlic (already in the ground)
- Cilantro
- Cat mint
- Strawberries
- Gooseberries (perennial - no berries this past year due to being a new plant)
- Raspberries (perennial - 3-4 varieties, some berries this past year, but still young plantings and not a large yield)
- Black raspberries (perennial - same situation as past year)
- Apple trees (2 varieties -Courtland and Russet young trees, no yield yet, long-term investment)
- Pear trees (2 varieties -Bosc and Bartlett, same situation as apples)
- Cherries (2 varieties, Sweet and Sour, same situation as apples)
- Canada plum (same situation as apples)
- American plum (same situation as apples)
- Dill
- Leeks
- [Chives --- think these were actually green onions and falsely sold as chives]
- Horseradish
- Lavender
- Basil
- Celery
- Radiccio
- Marigolds
- Nasturtium
- Kale
- Montreal melon
- Moon and Stars melon
2026 goals to add:
- Rosemary
- Hubbard Squash
- Onions
---
Have also started mushrooms, but may be a while until those sprout from the logs that were inoculated.
Maple syrup was also produced last year, insane amount of work, but got a good 14 litres of syrup for 17 trees on the property (part of the reason I bought this place).
Also have planted many native flowers on the property and continue to be anti-mow.
