stelena vs delena debate take

This will be an incredibly long rant btw

So, I just finished TVD and I've seen so much discourse over Stefan/Elena and Damon/Elena about who was the better partner and who she should've ended up with. In my genuine personal opinion, I loved Damon and Elena with my soul, but I can see why people don't like them and completely understand it. What I don't get is people who can't see that Stefan and Elena wouldn't have worked anyway.

Damon wasn't a good person and Elena knew that, that's what made their relationship work in the first place. She knew about all of the shit he did to Caroline, the shit he did to the Augustine's, etc, and she still was in love with him. They had a weird age gap and Damon kinda treated her like property sometimes, but she was never forced to be in a relationship with him and could've left at any point, he wasn't stopping her.

I get why people don't like them, there's a lot to hate (reasons above and many more), but Stefan and Elena were mediocre at best. She was better with him when she was human but once she became a vampire, he had no idea how to handle it. He kept trying to make her like him even though she wasnt a ripper and didnt need to be on an animal diet (we also really don't talk about the sire bond shit w/ Damon bc it made no sense and it was debunked later in the show anyway). They had a cute high-school romance (flowers, cute dates, etc), but things started to get real and violent and dangerous and Elena needed someone to not only keep her from killing/sacrificing herself every episode, but encourage her to embrace her vampire side in a way Stefan couldn't because his vampire side was out of control.

I might be biased bc I really hated Stefan's character bc of how he acted and how he refused to believe that pacifism wasn't alwavs the answer, but also because he was just really corny all the time. Also, Damon just had more depth to his character (despite how absolutely fucking evil he was in the first few seasons) and some valid reasons for being how he was. With Elena, Stefan didn't make her a "better person", she was being sheltered bc she was human, but she didn't need to be sheltered anymore as a vampire, she needed to have someone there to protect her from herself, and that was Damon.

In conclusion, Stefan x Elena sucks and Damon is better but also really sucks, so idk ship whoever you want (klaroline shipper 4 life <3, I take no criticism on them)
