Yeah I know you're going to say; "you're using a modern phone you can't say that you hypocrite", yes I do but because I couldn't choose it, my father just bought it without me knowing so It doesn't count.
Now beginning with the actual conversation why did phones became mid?? I don't want to sound nostalgiabait but old phones were better, they may not have too many options like modern phones but they accomplished with their function: being a device to communicate and nothing else, and play games though they were limited but to be honest ¿Who needs a phone to play games when you can buy a computer or a console? That's doesn't make any sense does it?, but the world have changed, now companies try to put EVERYTHING in phones, things that weren't necessary like social media that gives you more insecurities and attention span than entertainment, or ai assistants that nobody asked for, and worse, making mobile games, no I don't mean all of them I mean putting HEAVY games like genshin impact and ZZZ available when those shits makes your phone overheat,¿Why?, because these games aren't build for phones, it doesn't matter if they quit a few assets to make the games run smoothly, the phone will overheat anyway is stupid, phones aren't for playing games, they're for communicate with your family and friends, text them or take photos,¿You want to play games? Play them in a laptop or console and stop expecting that you can play any game in phones,is like trying to play cyberpunk 2077 in a Nokia, nonsense.
Now let's talk about another issue I have with this phones, the size, "the size doesn't matter" but In this case it clearly matters, can you explain to me why every phone is so BIG now? Genuinely I don't know why this is happening, back then our phones could easily fit into our hands, we didn't had to use both thumbs to text, now these phones are gigantic for no reason that plus a thick phone case in result give us a Monstrosity that can't fit anywhere, old phones were smaller and stronger, they fit in your pocket and we're DISCREET, you could sneak them into class and you just had to cover it with your hand or put it inside a pencil case to hide it from the teachers, now you can't do anything with that big square in your hands and it's visible to make it worse, thanks to their size it's easy for Thieves to steal them, back then yeah sure they stole phones too but at least you could hide it.
¿What happened to a single use devices? You had to carry a camera to take photos, if you wanted to play games you had to carry a Nintendo DS or a Gameboy, if you wanted to listen to music you had to carry a music player and headphones, yes that's a lot of stuff in your bag but at least it was fun.
I know you are comfortable with your phone because you can do a lot of things without having to buy a different device to do something, and more with this horrible economy, but again, I wish old phones were back in this era, if I had one I would use it if I go out 0% chances to get robbed and 0% chances to get distracted with tiktoks or something.
Just my opinion by the way.
This took me hours lol

Portable phones where meant to be efficient and useful telecommunication devices, not personal entertainment centers for people to rot their lives away on. I have noticed through my embarks society and your peers make it incredibly difficult on parting yourself from living without a mobile smartphone. Also something Ive noticed from the past to today relating on society and their dependence on them is the death of payphones and remembering phone numbers. In the past landlines and payphones where the norm and where not distractions but tools provided to our taxpayers expense, and even during the early 2000's they still served the sole purpose of being tools despite the shift for the convenience of portability. The reason why mobile smartphones have become incredibly popular Is convenience to the people who pose a blind eye rather than the practicality of older devices, This also heavily applies to modern automobiles.
You're so right
