Happy 113th Anniversary of Muhammadiyah

Happy 113th anniversary of Muhammadiyah, 18 November, 2025. 2025 Theme: "Memajukan Kesejahteraan Bangsa" (Advancing the Nation's Welfare).

Surprised my Indonesian friends? Yes, I'm part of Muhammadiyah, although not yet an official member, but I am part of Muhammadiyah, as well as my family especially my grandfather. Even I myself graduated from one of the Muhammadiyah junior high schools in my hometown.

Muhammadiyah taught me many things. To adhere a religion, one must have a reason, not blind faith. Islam must always progress, reformed, and modernised, keeping up with the times. In the process, there must be continuous renewal (تجديد, tajdid), internally or externally.

You know that Muhammadiyah is not a small organization, it is the second largest Muslim organisation in Indonesia and among the top ten wealthiest religious organisations in the world. Of course it's not perfect but I'm proud to be part of it, mainly for its education.

Muhammadiyah education is known to be very inclusive and tolerant. In many Muhammadiyah schools there are many non-Muslim students and teachers, really. One of the things that makes Muhammadiyah widely appreciated. My sports teacher in high school was also graduated from it.

No more Islamic conservatism, Islamic fundamentalism, and Islamic exclusivism. All Muslims must be moderate, tolerant, modern, and pluralist. May Muhammadiyah continue to progress and contribute to Indonesian society.
