Prescription: A Poem

Wrote this one on a Sunday when I had a headache.

______

My head won't stop hurting,

I can't stop seeing blonde, red, & blue

If my name was Polly,

Would you love me too?

I can't give you lithium,

Just a shoulder to drool on,

I'm not your muse,

Just a side effect,

A commercial on TV in between your songs.

People like to make fun of the lead in your head,

I want to choke them all to death,

While they praise a fascist in their last breath.

Getting fucked up on pills & cheap beer,

Trying to cure that aching fear,

I promise to love you, even if you screw up,

Only if you promise my love is enough.

Promise me I'm not some dumb groupie,

'Cause my prescription doesn't come cheap.

I'll be your baby if it makes you smile,

I'll make your symptoms go away for awhile.

I'll stay with you on this old mattress,

If it makes you cry less.

Nevermind, the pills are wearing off.

You were long gone before I came around.

I can only hear you when the TV is unplugged,

While your face stays under the bridge.

I should have came by your house that day,

Maybe then you would have stayed.
