I think we're all inherently biased to some degree; Mostly because we grow up within specific cultural and societal contexts. Our beliefs are shaped not only by what we subconsciously absorb in childhood but also by the communities and relationships we choose as we get older.
One bias Iβm trying to actively un-learning is the idea of βneutralityβ in situations where Iβm emotionally invested in both sides. Iβve realized that trying to stay neutral isnβt always a sign of fairnessβ sometimes itβs just a form of self-preservation.
I know that βa friend to all is a friend to none,β and Iβm working on grounding myself in what I genuinely believe is right, rather than avoiding conflict. Ultimately, Iβm trying to develop a stronger sense of morality and personal ideals instead of slipping into neutrality out of fear or habit.
I admit I've hurt people because of my cowardice, and I regret it deeply. I wish I could have been more understanding and empathetic about their situation. It's something I think about everyday.
I want to be a better person for the people I care about.
