watched singing in the rain (the musical) live!!

informal blog today but trust me that i've been clawing at the walls trying to write a very particular music blog, hopefully i can write a proper one soon :)

singing in the rain is probably my favorite movie. i watched it all the time as a child with my grandfather and the humor, talent, melodies, and visuals cast a unique spell on me. i rewatch it with basically everyone i know, so it's a huuge deal to me. last night, i watched the live musical and loved it so here's a review!!

it was in italian & the songs were translated as well, which was a bit of a shock but while i usually have a tough time translating, i had no problem as i knew every song and every joke lol. the casting was PHEMOMENAL, lina has always been an icon and they really got the perfect woman to play her. my favorite character, roscoe (the director) is totally unhinged in the movie and has the funniest bits. the stage actor was incredible at being just as wild. and, of course, the main trio were exceptional. i didn't know they would be doing straight-up acrobatics on stage! i mean, it was 3 hours of nonstop motion. i'm not a theater kid and was not expecting just how physically exhausting it must have been.

the highlights of the show may have been the moses supposes sequence, good morning, and the title track. in the original moses supposes, i used to be stunned by the dancing - don and cosmo tap dance on a desk! and in the live version, they tap danced on a desk as well, and the desk was on wheels!! good morning was the performance that i felt really lived up to the original, it was so so well done.

i was most shocked by the title track, though. obviously i couldn't expect it to be as good as the movie, i have too much of a nostalgic connection to it. but man, they had actual rain effects come in on the stage! it was magical, even from waaay back in the theater where i was. also, it really was raining in the real world when i watched the show, it was lovely.

that's all for now, much love!
