why does no one know what alt means

the term alt has been so watered down from its actual means. Alt is an umbrella term for many subcultures, so it doesn't have set politics, music and a style, but many people think of it as just that. for example i see many videos of people saying being alt is political, where as it isn't inherently political, just the suncultures that fall under term are sometimes political and some are just fashion based
