the resurgence of cds

2 blogs in 1 day im crazy ik but i felt like blogging. I have never been a huge fan of cds just based off of the fact that it felt like an awkward middle ground between the convenience of digital streaming and the excitement and analog feel of vinyl. I had a few that I picked up as a kid, but nothing more than that. Recently gf and i walked into a record store and immediately saw they had a 10 cds for 1 euro deal and we went crazy. it was mostly random shit and dance compilations but that was all it took for me to catch the bug. see i enjoy touching my music and holding it in my hand, but what i really crave is the hunt. I would dig through record crates for literal hours just searching for something nice but ive long since cleared out those bins in my city. What I never considered was that cds are super mega cheap bc people dont listen to them anymore. my theory is that people love vinyl records because its a vibe and it looks cool and feels cool to have them even though im pretty sure the vast majority of these people dont have a turntable to play them on (not that they would have cd players instead or anything). And to some extent i get it, its something to show and display and its cool to purchase an album, but i want to listen to me music as well and cds are so cheap that its hard to justify not buying them if you like them.

But what really gripped me is that i go into these stores and i get some cds that look cool without knowing what is on them or sometimes ill check the genre on discogs to make sure its not some stupid shit. this builds the anticipation and the excitement to get home and find out what I grabbed. It means i am discovering music organically, i wait for it to come to me instead of getting force fed by the spoti algorithm. the tiktok brainwashing format that spotify has inflicted on me in which i make cues and playlists with whatever song i feel like in the moment takes me out fo the experience and when im with people, ive noticed that everyone is just waiting for their song to play on cue. its exhausting and the magic of just putting a cd on and letting it play takes all the pressure off of finding a good next song and I can just enjoy it. I am also using it as a way to be more mindful in general, such as for example ill put in a cd while i cook, and when im done cooking ill let it play while i eat instead of opening whatever garbage is on youtube.

Ive been making it a habit to just pass by random thrifts when i am out an about in town just to check it out, usually i can leave with 1 or 2 albums. I like the way they feel in my fingers, the clack clack clack the make as i flip thorugh them, and they store much better than records. I recently bought one of those towers that you can use to store cds in and its a great piece in the living room. One thing ive been wanting to do is to burn some cds myself and idk make like playlists. you might say that im being hypocritical based off of what i said earlier, but actually i would use CD-r, so once i burn it its in there forever i cant change it. I think it would be nice to make cds for special occasions or road trips or stuff like that. anyways tldr im really enjoying it and slowly i want to collect enough to fully remove spotify, but then how would i listen to music on the go? time to get an mp3 player i guess. lots to think about
