Three Radikal Rekerds #39: Iberian Idiothermous Intellectualism

NIZA, Archivando Mis Recuerdos (1998-2004)
Genre: Chamber Pop/Easy Listening
Standout track: Por La Noche
Looking up a few old favourites of mine from the Madrid-based label Elefant Records, and my curiosity brought me to this collection of utterly charismatic and bittersweet sleepy tunes from a musician duo I hadn't heard of. Even when these songs get a little more uptempo, they remain breezy and blissful.

Big Blood, Deep Maine
Genre: Folk/Indie/Outsider Music
Standout track: Hail The Happy Hourlings
Contained therein are seven homebrew freak-folk misereres whose slow-mo Disney protagonist charm's are offset by a real rural darkness. I love the vocalist' (a lady named Colleen Kinsella) marvellously tumultuous tones!

Tályogház, Demo
Genre: Black Metal/Punk/Hardcore
Standout track: 3
Google translate claims that this Hungarian bands name means "abscess house". Given how unconventional this release is (how many blackened punk projects do you know that would have a picture of palm fronds on their cover art? :p) and how stark-bollocks-crazy their experimentally-interpolated sound is, why not right? Artsy black metal isn't usually this toothsome tbh!

what great reviews/recs! took a casual listen to niza but ended up enjoying it more than i anticipated. "breezy" was indeed an accurate word. radio star ended up being the one i'd call my personal stand out track. i like sounds that transport me to different times and places, and this song does. thanks for the songs!

Thanks for dropping in to post a nice comment! :D I update my blog with music reviews like this on an almost daily basis, if you're at all interested :3 I uncovered that NIZA duo because a chance encounter with an old favourite song of mine by a band named The School titled "All I Wanna Do" sent me into an Elefant Records backcatalogue binge.
