Hottake (all addictions are vaild)

I believe that all addictions are valid and should be taken seriously. As someone who has dealt with a porn addiction, I know how hard it can be to overcome it. I'm trying my best to get better each day, but it’s a really tough journey. It’s interesting to see how people are usually more accepting of drug addicts than they are of others with different addictions. I think everyone deserves support, no matter what kind of addiction they’re facing, because we all have our struggles. Addiction can make people feel isolated and misunderstood, and that’s why it's so important for us to be open-minded and compassionate. We never know what someone else is going through. If we try to listen and show empathy, we can create an environment where everyone feels safe to share their experiences and seek help. Let's work together to break the stigma around all kinds of addiction and support one another in finding our way to recovery.

"It’s interesting to see how people are usually more accepting of drug addicts than they are of others with different addictions" wtf world are u living in ? drug addicts r treated like shit, treated like they do it to themselfs and arnt worth basic human decency because of it. porn "addictian" is WAY MORE accepted/normalised then drug addictian r u crazy (btw the idea of porn addictian is contested by scientists lol recent reserch points to it not being real)

The reason I said that is because I have seen (on Pinterest) porn addicts get shamed

by 🐢C4lly; ; Report

thats probly more slut shaming then anything to do with porn addictian. especally if its mostly women and girls these ppl are shaming . anything to do with shaming sex, thats 99% cuz of society veiwing sex as taboo, not cuz of anything to do with addictian

and they have been doing it to men

ya but it still has nuthing to do with any sortof "addictian", just that sex is seen as taboo and sumthing that should only b done with ur spouse/partner. it has to do with social norms, alot to do with religion/moral views, and the shame that comes from all that , so ppl internalise all that and feel guilt for jerking off to porn then try to justafy it by saying they r addicted insted of realising its normal to be sexual 🤷‍♂️

A significant number of individuals experience difficulty in reducing or stopping their consumption of porn, despite it potentially impacting their lives and relationships negatively. The viewing of porn can trigger the release of dopamine, which provides a sense of pleasure; however, over time, some may find themselves drawn to increasingly intense material in pursuit of similar feelings. For certain individuals, the challenge of quitting may lead to discomfort, which can resemble addiction-like behavior. If the enjoyment of porn begins to interfere with important areas of life, such as academic performance or social connections, it certainly deserves thoughtful consideration. Opinions differ on whether porn constitutes a true addiction, reflecting a variety of perspectives on this complex issue.

driving fast gives sum ppl a dopamine rush, sum ppl r repeat offenders when it comes to speeding and getting tickets, u wouldnt call them addicted to speeding. jerking off or watching porn 10 times a day dont literally change the structure of ur brain the way real addictians do, thats the big diffrence. im not saying it isnt a struggle that should be taken seriously when it impacts ur ability to functian normally but thats more along the lines of mental illness or sumthing, not addictian

u gotta look at why u started getting hooked in the first place, was it a normal reasen (exploring sexually), or did it have to do with trauma (sexual abuse, being forced to be around overtly sexual ppl from a young age) or obsessive thougths like with OCD. all of these come with shame but for diffrent reasons. most kids r taught its wrong to touch there own body, its drilled into us basicly from birth that we should be ashamed of our bodys, that masturbatian is wrong, yadda yadda. insted of learning how to explore safely we r taught shame, that sticks with us and unfortunatly leaves kids alot more vulerable to sexual abuse

it allso leaves kids still feeling curious so they acess porn secretly. again continuing the cycle of shame and vulnerabilty

the more a kid is left to make sense of things on there own with no safe and healthy guidence the more the cycle goes and goes and goes into adulthood

its shame not addictian. at the core
