In Limbo

taking up space

filling in the gaps

so many words

but nothing to say

I'm not trying

 neither are you.

we're both afraid to force something

to strike a single spark.

painful, mutual avoidance.

stuck

wishing,

desperately.

for something interesting to happen.

that moment

our moment

it could have been beautiful.

in fact,

it was beautiful

we were both too selfish to see.

Too afraid to see.

Too afraid to leap into the arms of the other,

and allow our personhood to collide.

Our similarities,

our differences,

effortless to find.

The beauty that both our paths had somehow,

aligned.

that beauty

that we will never see.

because we chose to be selfish.
