Looking to Stay with SpaceHey

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope everyone had a fantastic time with family and/or food. No matter what anyone says, being with family is key.

Alright, so while more of the website is still worked on, I noticed a lot of people asking how we came to be here on SpaceHey, how we found it and why we joined. Given our stance, and my personal view of social media, why are we here? Let's get it out of the way:

I quit social media as early as last year, June 2020 and on. I've had a SnapChat but never used it; I never had a TikTok either, and never will. While I can explain in further details, there's too much arguing, competition and uncalled-for bullying on those platforms. It is a great way to see how everyone is doing, but not everyone is honest (a contradiction, because "spilling the beans" could be grounds for trouble/rumors/false information). I could have the worst day of the year, and lie online saying I'm having a fun day, or not share anything at all. Worse, if you're not active on their platform like everyone else, you either miss out or you're "dead." In other words, "dead" as in you don't care about how others are doing, which to me, sounds like borderline peer pressure...almost catering to someone's attention just for 'likes.' To me, it seems grounded on people's insecurities and that's not good.

I personally didn't mind social media and enjoyed using it from time to time. However, I'm not sure if it's me, my circle of folks I [used to] know or how far we've gotten in society, but it got worse to the point where I didn't want it anymore.

However, SpaceHey has been wonderful so far. I found out about it indirectly from my best buddy. Lots of nostalgics hang around here, and I'm loving it, as I am one myself. So far, the interaction between people is more fun. Better yet, it's more peaceful and less susceptible to real-world issues (at least I would hope so). Even though I wish more people were on here, there's a chance that those people may ruin it for us and everyone else, so at the same time, I'm hoping it's within moderation that this platform remains tidy and real. I've adapted well living life without social media, but we can now say that this is my final choice in terms of online platforms. Peace and quiet is my thing, and has been since my pre-teenage years. If things somehow get worse here, I have no problem leaving.

I hope the team keeps up the fantastic work around here. It's wonderful and great, and I haven't been this active on a social platform since early last year, pre-pandemic. The people here seem much happier too, so I hope that keeps up. I can't thank An and the SpaceHey Team enough!

(My former colleagues, high school classmates and more don't know about my being here. And I want it to stay that way. For everyone else on here, hello and it's a pleasure to meet you all!)
