microsoft can go away thanks

got a new computer, has windows 11. i download minecraft and it won't open. uninstall, install, uninstall, install. same stuff, launcher broke. i restart my computer and try again... this time, it at least tells me why: i (essentially) need to sign in to a microsoft account to open this. WHAT? grade-a pain, this is. i downloaded it off of minecraft.net, so of course that means i had to sign in to download to begin with, so it is not like i got it illegitimately, so why is microsoft craftblocking me??

silver lining, i found out classic.minecraft.net exists, and that's pretty fun.

i have been, and it is great but it is missing some functionality i need

Examples?

by Free McBup; ; Report

the big one for me is ableton. i believe i have made a blog about this already, but tl;dr, after a few ways of trying to get it to work, it either a. wouldn't or b. had limited functionality to the point i may as well be using audacity. that's the main thing really. otherwise, i really enjoyed linux. and though i could partition my computer to have a bit of linux in it, i am just not interested, unless something really major pops up.

What's Ableton?

by Free McBup; ; Report

Ableton Live is a DAW, basically music production software.

The minecraft site has been screwy for months with the language thing. If you scroll to the bottom of the page there's a spot to change it back to english, but it doesn't always stick. I had to delete the site cookies to get it to finally behave.

As far as the launcher, make sure you're launching it as an admin. and make sure it's set for either your microsoft login (if you migrated already) or your old mojang login.

hope that helps.

by CursedXistence; ; Report

malheureusement, i have already done all that/can't do that (with the login one, considering it won't even boot up :/ ). thanks for your time tho! :)

by iason; ; Report

did you try the new launcher from the ms store?

by CursedXistence; ; Report

that involves logging in to a microsoft account, which i don't want to do for semi-arbitrary reasons haha

by iason; ; Report

Everyone has to migrate minecraft to microsoft accounts anyways eventually if you want to keep playing so might as well just do it.

by CursedXistence; ; Report

unfortunately with that, the website turns dutch, and i cannot change it at the login part of the page. it's just an overall pain on all sides :/

If you're using google chrome just get the google translate extension for it and you can use that for the pages that don't have the globe (language select) icon on the bottom of them.

by CursedXistence; ; Report

i have used translate, and that unfortunately has not helped much, as the meanings are decently vague and whatnot :/
