So this actually happened around two weeks ago (as of the time of this writing), but I'm only thinking to post about it now.
We had to put my dog down.
He was 11 years old, and over the past few months, he had started having seizures. At first, we thought it might have just been one time only, but as time went by, the seizures started to occur with increasing frequency. We think it may have been a brain tumor, but there's really no way to be sure.
We had scheduled a vet appointment to see what was going on, but it was going to be an entire week before then. In the meantime, it was almost as if he had entirely forgotten how to be a dog. He didn't wag, he didn't lick, didn't bark, didn't eat, didn't drink. All that was left was pacing around the living room and occasionally hiding away.
On his final day, he had 28 seizures (at least; we actually lost count at 28) in 14 hours. If you've never heard a dog scream like a human before, I don't recommend it. It's a sound that will haunt my nightmares.
The next morning, we brought him to an emergency vet about 40 minutes away and had him euthanized. He was buried the same day, but then we had him exhumed to be cremated instead, as I felt that it would give me closure to be able to have his ashes with me.
On April 27th, 2014, I watched your birth.
On October 26th, 2025, I watched your death.
Rest in peace, Schnazzy, you were one of the best dogs a guy could ask for.

The two new beginnings came a few days later, when we decided we would get new dogs.
We had considered getting Cavapoos, but eventually settled on getting two more Miniature Schnauzers, the same breed Schnazzy was.
After a little bit of deliberation, we named them Samson and Delilah.

Samson is the white one, and Delilah is the gray one. Their previous owners had named Delilah already, so we just decided on having Samson's name match. My mom wanted to name Samson "Peeve" instead, so she could say that he was her pet Peeve, and I wanted to name Delilah "Silver", because of her gray fur, but eventually those were the names we decided on.
They're very sweet, but also very shy. We brought them to meet some friends, including one friend's other Schnauzer, and after a little bit of barking, they just kind of cowered behind us for a little bit and then tried to sleep to ignore the other dog. They like to wrestle with each other, as dogs often do. Delilah is a lot more barky, while Samson is just a little bit more bitey, and Samson has a cute little underbite.
