Vienna daytrip - Natural History Museum

HALLO! Welcome to my Vienna blog, my little mongrels!

So for some context, I'm actually currently doing an Internship in Budapest, and so I've just said "eh fuck it" to Hungary and took a bus to Austria, Vienna instead!

Seriously though, this is a BEAUTIFUL city, truly so much culture to experience here, I'm really hoping I get to come back another day to see all the art and music museums...
As for now, I can only share a few photos I took during my sightseeing escapade and of course - the natural history museum!
Most of the pictures will be from there actually haha

You know, I even found out that Vienna has the OLDEST (still working) Zoo in the WHOLE WORLD?! Like IMAGINE that, when I found this out - I FUCKING KNEW I have to come back here one day.

oh also - I met my Chinese idol, Ne zha ...I totally played it cool

seriously, though, have any of you seen this movie? I feel like most people don't even know that it's the highest grossing animated film now - surpassing inside out

And honestly? The story might not be the most world shattering thing ever, but the animation, the gags, the effort? It really deserves it.
I've never seen such a beautifully animated movie before, there's this split second shot, of an old man's hand, and it's the most detailed - gorgeous hand I've ever seen..
But that's not even my favorite part - the STAKES of this movie are HIGH, the sequel was SO tense to watch - I genuinely couldn't peel my eyes away.
If you guys are cinephiles like me, you should totally give it a watch

ANYWAY, I'm done yapping about the *irrelevant* stuff, DINOSAURS! or well PREHISTORIC ANIMALS!
LOOK AT THIS DAMN TERROR BIRD RECONSTRUCTION!!!

Genuinely such a beautiful sculpture, and my birder roommate even pointed out that they used real turkey feathers for this,,hehe turkey terror bird  Also, on a side note - I want to express how i felt throughout this little excursion, as i was having severe back and shoulder cramps/pains, after walking around a museum for aprox. 5 hours my face looked somewhere like this.

(I really think these photos express my emotions perfectly)

Oh yeah! These taxidermy sets! Aren't they beautiful??
The frilled lizard one even has a little badge from the European Taxidermy championship!
Though I wonder about the frogs..do the blue dudes ever bully the boring piss colored frog in the middle?
Is frog racism real?

Some more gorgeous fossils and replicas of fossils!
(I haven't seen this many prehistoric fossils even in the natural history museum of London I believe, so I'm like really excited about these...such gorgeous models)

Though to be fair I was like 14 when I visited London's museum, I should go see it again sometime.. All I remember is their Baryonyx (as it's one of my favorite dinosaurs)

OH YEAH, I saw this GORGEOUS T-rex Skull and I HAD to take pictures with it LOL

I don't quite like showing my face on social media, so I drew over myself with my Sona Cheeto - Don't judge how bad the art is, I did it on my laptops' trackpad in bed, after 9 hours of work and 4 hours of sleep and haven't drawn for like half a year...

Hmmm, I guess that's it!
I definitely have MANY more pictures, but it's just me obsessively photographing every single fish, lizard, and fossil I saw - and I don't want to cluster up this blog TOO much
So instead I'll show this book I bought from the gift shop! Severely overpriced, and outdated but It's mine and I love it.
I'm actually quite a sucker for old "vintage" paleoart, so this book is a real treat to me!

Little authors note:
If you got this far, thank you for reading my blog! I had to re-make this blog like three times, as I am severely sleep-deprived, and not used to working on a laptop, So I have accidentally refreshed the page while writing the code/text for this blog and lost all my progress, nearly lost my mind! But I was determined to post it tonight!
There is one thing I would love to share from this trip, and it was this plaque that had some quite uplifting text, really helped me feel more motivated, as someone who loves discovering and learning more about this world.

"This is a rare chance to continue learning to see, even if - especially is - you think that this process had been finished long ago and that you 'have seen it all'
...
Never give up the expectation of seeing beauty and miracles for the first time."

Anywho, have a good day or night, and stay wild.

These pics are so pretty and this layout is so cool!
I don't think I've ever been in a museum and only been to a zoo once :P but like fossils are so awsome bones are very cool i like em and yes vintage books have flavour to them and I love it very much, glad you had a great time!
Also, I have seen clips of ne zha and there are like three movies so do I watch all three or just the more recent one?

thank u so much!!!

also crazy!! i like, try to go every museum i find, with zoos its a bit more difficult since alot of them arent good, i dont support zoos unless they are actively working with wildlife conservation and education, or arent aprooved by the EAZA <- thats the best thing to look for if u wanna make sure the zoo is a good place.

also regarding ne zha theres only two movies! the first one is eh, mediocre childrens film, but i put up with it just so the sequel makes sense to me, and gosh was it worth it, i fucking looooved the sequel, really insane work for a childrens film.

Holy shit! It does appear you posted a new blog... Alright, yes! More things for me to read and respond to, yay! I like the music on this one

> seriously, though, have any of you seen this movie? I feel like most people don't even know that it's the highest grossing animated film now - surpassing inside out
Absolutely not; it's not even talked about in the USA, wtf!

> the STAKES of this movie are HIGH, the sequel was SO tense to watch -
Damn, really? Ne zha... I'm on the fourteenth episode of TBHX so if I somehow find myself with a lot of time on my hands and wish not to read books that I wanted to read, then I'll try to remember and check it out

Some of the pictures still are not loading for me after my repeated reloads; I don't know if this is the fault of my wifi or if they're actually broken but I needed to let you know that since it appears that I will not be able to commentate on their beauty or general fascination.

> after walking around a museum for aprox. 5 hours
Holy shit that museum must be big, super intriguing, or both!

> Though to be fair I was like 14 when I visited London's museum
Oh, damn, London! Were the costs of that trip super expensive?!

> after 9 hours of work and 4 hours of sleep and haven't drawn for like half a year
Good lord

> So instead I'll show this book I bought from the gift shop! Severely overpriced, and outdated but It's mine and I love it.
I am honestly surprised that a museum was selling something vintage, or at least very outdated! Here, they just sell us cheaply made soft toys and maybe some interesting tactile toy that serves to both teach and entertain kids... nothing like books here sadly. I am unsure if it's purely a USA thing or if the museums in Florida specifically are just scheisse

> So I have accidentally refreshed the page while writing the code/text for this blog and lost all my progress, nearly lost my mind!
That's enough to make me not want to bother with redoing the blog! Kudos to you for giving it the addition it needed

Oh, also, is Vienna actually known for Sachertorte? Whether that is a signature dessert or not, have you ever had it? I would assume it's quite expensive but that's also me speaking as both a USAmerican (prices here keep rising, wages still stagnant, job openings not so good but could be much worse) and supposed cheapskate LOL

Yess new blog time!!! thenk u for reading..

>Holy shit that museum must be big, super intriguing, or both!
I think im just a little insane when it comes to museums, and i want to read every single plaque, so i could spend the whole day there. the only thing that made me leave was really bad back pain and my group begging me to come outside lmao
But it was HUGE and had such good expositions(?) idk what theyre called, but wow, one of the best museums ive ever been to!

also regarding london, i have no hecking clue how expensive it was, i was a 10-14 year old that just went wherever his dad brought him haha, but im sure it was much cheaper than nowadays
airlines are extremely greedy now regarding luggage and stuff, and brexit wasnt a thing back then either i think, so now its just much worse

also thanks for letting me know about the images! spacehey has been sort of broken lately, since for me the images load, but sometimes when i go through other peoples posts i cant see jack shit!

> am unsure if it's purely a USA thing or if the museums in Florida specifically are just scheisse
honestly most museums are kind of scheisse. atleast in the gift shops, most of the time its cheap plastic toys, though this one had amazing dinosaur model toys...
but yeah i was shocked to see this book too! thats why i had to grab it haha..im obsessed with vintage dinosaur designs.
honestly this museum shop was insane, they had real fossils for sale (to be fair they were like 1k euro) though there was some cheap claws and teeth. a bunch of puzzles and all kinds of other learning stuff,
honestly really good.

also yeah i learned quite alot about vienna, even the sachertorte, i didnt try it myself though, im not a big fan of sweets.
I have tried it but not in Austria, i think my mom mustve made it or something, but i just found it way too sweet for my tastes
also regarding the pricing - jesus lord..everything in vienna costs a fortune. I was absolutely shocked with the pricing there

I too want to read all or at least most plaques in museums, but the thing that drives me from reading all of them is really only my go-to group hauling ass throughout the entire exhibit lol

> But it was HUGE and had such good expositions(?) idk what theyre called, but wow, one of the best museums ive ever been to!
Large exhibitions! I do not think I have been to a museum that showcased fossils of dinosaurs, so I would have assumed that all related museum exhibitions were ginormous by default, unless they're only showing off a pitiful and small find like most fossilied vegetation.

> also regarding london, i have no hecking clue how expensive it was, i was a 10-14 year old that just went wherever his dad brought him haha,
That's alright and wow it's nice your dad was bringing you to London! Do you ever recall it smelling? I understand that it was many years ago for you now so this will probably also get a response along the lines of "Hrm I do not remember"; I ask because I could have sworn that some people say that some cities like London still operate on older sewer systems and thusly have a poopy smell LOL. That might only be an issue of Paris maybe actually.

> but im sure it was much cheaper than nowadays
> airlines are extremely greedy now regarding luggage and stuff,
Oh!

> and brexit wasnt a thing back then either i think, so now its just much worse
Yeah, I forgot that Brexit might also have jacked up any kind of traveleing to and from the UK

> spacehey has been sort of broken lately, since for me the images load, but sometimes when i go through other peoples posts i cant see jack shit!
Yeah! I thought it was strange that, for once, things like ImbBB have not been working well on here. I am not well-learned enough with server displaying image things so I do not have a start with speculation on why An's servers are suffering like this (especially since this issue, you'd think, would not affect SpaceHey but instead be a failing of the original image hosts).

> honestly most museums are kind of scheisse.
Oh okay damn lol I guess I was very lucky when I used to live in Virginia!

There are no gross anatomy museums anywhere in the USA anymore, I swear! Do we live in the damn Renaissance era?!

> in the gift shops, most of the time its cheap plastic toys, though this one had amazing dinosaur model toys...
Fascinating; you would think that a museum dedicated to dinosaurs would almost always have models on the quality level that you're reporting!

> they had real fossils for sale (to be fair they were like 1k euro) though there was some cheap claws and teeth.
Dauumn. I wonder if this is *the* Dinosaur museum wherever you went. I am unsure what museums would have similarly authentic fossils for sale in the USA. I am surprised that some fossils are allowed to be collected in the EU, but maybe that's a whole thing decided by museums or some kind of fossil authority.

> but i just found it way too sweet for my tastes
I am very surprised to hear that it was actually very sweet... I never knew that its sweetness was a kind of attraction or gimmick to the dessert until I read this and then read how sweet it supposedly is in the autobiographical comic "Persepolis."

> also regarding the pricing - jesus lord..everything in vienna costs a fortune. I was absolutely shocked with the pricing there
Yeah, now this makes me wonder if the pricing is stupid from tourism or if Vienna's cost of living is generally hellish... I would guess more on the latter because of Vienna's history as some kind of bougie, artsy place... I could just look it up myself though

Wow! The images are breathtaking! The first one could easily be a desktop wallpaper.
I too went to some museums with many fossils and taxidermy sets. I've said several times that I will make the blog about that trip yet I still haven't. I should get to it hahaha. I saw some similar things there and I always enjoy seeing that sort of stuff.
I am particularly impressed by these fossils you've taken pictures of though. Which one is the 5th one? Is it a Mosasaurus? Or am I talking out of my ass?
I also love that you can just take a bus and get to Vienna like that! I have been wanting to go to Vienna for some time. When I was 9 my family was really not well off but we were still lucky enough to manage a trip to Europe together and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Just such a shame I was a dumb 9 year old who did not have the appreciation for History and Art that I have nowadays, which is why I desperately want to go back someday, if it will ever be possible. I'm still grateful for it regardless.

Ahhhh how excited am i to see a notification from you my dude <3
ty so much for all these compliments, im so glad you really liked that first picture - im honestly proud of it myself insanely, as i talked in my previous blog im really trying to get into photography so ugh i feel proud of that one (still waiting to get a camera though, all of this was taken on my samsung)

For the fossil, youre sort of correct actually! Its a Platecarpus (Belongs to the Mososaur family so practically youre right) That display was honestly so gorgeous, its one of my favorites - sadly it was kinda hung up on a wall that some people might not even notice it (not me though, i spent like an hour in the dinosaur exhibition)
all of the fossils therer were SOOOO nice, i adore just staring at them in awe, so i'd absolutely LOVE to see you write a blog for the museums you visited! you can expect me in the comment section asap, also I feel you, I come from quite a poor family too, so If we ever traveled somewhere it would be close to home - usually just a fishing trip, but now that i have my own money, i can let myself travel more! The FlixBus from budapest to vienna only cost 18 euros actually! (you can get really good deals if you snoop around enough, cant be picky about the dates though)
Anywho, the feeling of exploring places when youre a kid, and realizing how you didnt value all the museums and uclture back then hits HARD, ive been to so many amazing places as a kid, and yet we didnt give a shit, but deep down i think it still affected us, and cultured us as people, thats why we find it so interesting nowadays - some people are grown ass adults and still preffer to sit on their ass all day and drink instead of taking in culture like this,, sorry i went on quite a ramble with this reply hehe, but either way - i hope you get to come back to vienna, I really hope I get to go there again too, i need to see more of their museums!
