being a metalhead in my country

hello guys i just want to talk about what it is like being a metalhead in my country and i just want to share my experiences in my country with you

!!i do not have any prejudice against metalheads and i do not hate them i only want to share some experiences related to metalheads in my country!!

first let me explain what the term dek chang means before i share my experience as a metalhead

in my country there is a group of people known as "dek chang/technical students/เด็กช่าง" which refers to vocational students they are students who study in fields like mechanical engineering electrical engineering industrial engineering or technology related faculties some of them do not even continue studying but act like dek chang to intimidate others dek chang does not have a very good reputation in my country in the past many of them formed gangs fought each other between institutions injured or even killed others though it is less common now the image still remains

some of them cause trouble in public some use weapons to attack others in public spaces they often fight in groups on buses or in other places they are extremely proud of their institution and will fight others only because they come from different institutions some even use guns

this has caused dek chang to be associated with delinquency in public perception even though there are many who study seriously and do not want to cause trouble people tend to remember violent events more they have cool music taste but some of them do not behave very well still there are many who truly want to study and avoid conflict they often listen to heavy metal and thrash metal and some of them are metalheads they listen to bands like donpheebin, doctor stones, mad pack it, hin lek fai, and smile buffalo

this is not only because of personality but also cultural factors inside vocational institutions such as deep senior and junior hierarchy which encourages loyalty to their institution and hostility toward others the idea that a real man must not back down which leads to violence and the stressful environment of wanting to work early and support family while lacking emotional outlets which can lead to violence

ordinary people are afraid of dek chang many adults do not trust them when a dek chang is good or hardworking people often overlook them because violent incidents are louder in memory

because of this if you are a metalhead in my country people might mistake you for a dek chang many people here do not know what a metalhead is and it is not widely accepted ( from my personal experience ) the appearance of metalheads can be similar to dek chang so if you wear some random jeans with a band shirt or dress like metalhead or if you are a long haired guy the police might stop you or people might assume you are dek chang or wannabe dek chang might pick a fight with you

for example if you wear a donpheebin band shirt now people may assume you are a wannabe dek chang or in the past dek chang might even steal your band shirt by using threats weapons or group attacks

i like donpheebin a lot their music is very good but i rarely tell people because i would be teased as a wannabe dek chang or a dek chang and even if i did not care about being teased i would still be afraid that one day while going to school, walking home or going somewhere someone might suddenly beat me up or kill me just because i am wearing a donpheebin band shirt/sweater i don't want to die at 14
