internet nostalgia

im a very nostalgic person it seems >_> today i have been pretty nostalgic about online stuff - such as artists i followed on instagram and what i watched on youtube.

the sad thing is these videos and accounts can get deleted at a whim and unless they were archived, the content is gone forever. i think that's why i'm so passionate about digital archiving and sharing - i have a 'youtube videos' folder on my hard drive with saved speedpaints, vlogs, etc. all of this is shared on slsk so it's available to others.

there are artists like sleepybirdie who deleted her Instagram but luckily got saved to pinterest. the image linked here is by SquishyMocha. i want to find more SquishyMocha art and can't find any on pinterest yet :< i remember loving Everpaint and SquishyMocha as a teenager on instagram and their art style is super comforting and makes me feel happy and nostalgic.

there was a huge photography scene on instagram in the early 2010s too. i followed a photographer called annie lefforge for over a decade and i remember a photographer called sammmmmmmmm (idk how many m's lol) and her photography was beautiful.

instagram is so different now and I have no idea if SquishyMocha or anyone else i mentioned is active on there with a different handle. it's sad things have changed but i'm still glad i have these memories and am able to save what i can.

There's something horrifying about it.. Web games and youtube videos and all kinds of stuff gone. History lost. Memories are nice but can seem so fuzzy, especially for such old things.

it's sad., everything should be saved but a lot has disappeared already. i used to play this flash game called 'Yogo Alley' and only a few games from it remain on the internet archive.
there are a bunch of flash games i remember but can't seem to find ;__;
i recently found this app called WF Downloader and have been archiving pixiv and deviant art pages (though da's search engine is busted unfortunately)
none of these platforms care about archiving, all we can do is save and share stuff around. my favourite era is late 2000s-early 2010s so that's what im prioritising.

The saying back in the day was "once it's on the internet, it's there forever", as a cautionary, but now it sounds naive and wishful. Funny what happens in 20 years.
