This is one of my absolute favorite horror games of all time. I would also argue that it’s one of the internet's most influential horror games!!! If you’ve never heard of Amnesia before let me TELL YOU!1 And no, this isn’t that kind of amnesia! Amnesia is in short like the first horror game to really start this trend about youtubers playing horror games and getting jumpscared and stuff. The guy who was most popular with playing amnesia was pewdiepie, and I know he’s… yeah. But those videos from 15 years ago are still pretty funny I’d say! He has actually said that the reason he doesn’t play horror games anymore is because they aren’t scary to him anymore, except for amnesia, which still scares him to play. I can vouch for that!!! If there is one game that has made me the most scared it HAS to be amnesia! It took me way too long to finish the first game… BUT IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS TOO SCARED TO PLAY IT! If there’s one horror game I’d recommend you play its Amnesia: The dark descent. It's usually very cheap and exists on every platform. (I’m pretty sure)
Now okay actually about the game, it’s a Swedish game(yippie!). It was the first real horror game of its time to scare in the way it did. Instead of having the ability to fight back the player was forced to basically only hide from the monsters, because running from them was also practically impossible. The game also has a very cool sanity system which made it much more interesting to play! The character you play as, Alexander, has nyctophobia, which is a fear of the dark. SO throughout the entire game you have to always make sure you are in the light. You had a lantern with limited fuel and had to make sure you were being very sparse with the use of it. This also added another layer of stress to the player! Yay!!! Because if you didn’t stay in the light, Alexander will become harder to control as well as your screen becoming wonky and can lead to him dying(I think). This franchise has A LOT of puzzles to solve in it btw and I could NOT finish it without searching up a guide here and there… The games in this series are very inconsistent when it comes to quality, some were really good!(like the first game and it’s dlc) And others were pretty trash, like a Amnesia: A machine for pigs and Amnesia: Rebirth.
Speaking of the DLC for the dark decent!!!! This is probably one of my faves out of the game series. It’s called Justine and IT’S JUST AH! The lore is really cool and playing through it is fun but a bit hard with the puzzles. Check out the lore NOW!

I’d definitely recommend these if you’re looking for some youtube documentary to watch while you do something else!

the atmosphere in amnesia is out of this world. very immersive and thats why its such good horror. once youre immersed you almost forget it's just a game
