Shelby Oaks

I recently watched Shelby Oaks in theaters, and as a horror movie girl, I have some thoughts. (also btw this should go without saying, but there will be spoilers). The movie starts out documentary style and honestly kinda had me hooked. This girls sister had gone missing around 12 years ago after her friends were found dead. Anyways, so they're making this documentary and some guy shows up and shoots himself in the head in front of her. This is where things start to take a turn for the worst in my opinion. The sister of the missing girl sees the man who shot himself was holding a tape and she hid it from the police and watched it herself at home. It is at this point that we are introduced to this demon entity that plagues the whole movie.

The tape shows footage of the night her sister goes missing and her friends are killed, and theres a scene where she can see the outline of some kind of dark figure. For some unknown reason this girl takes it upon herself to go and explore where the abandoned town where her sister went missing. I should also note that the sister went missing filming a "paranormal exploration" video with her friends for their youtube channel. Anyways, the girl goes alone to an abandoned prison, before doing this she finds out the guy who shot himself was in this same prison before some riot broke out and it shut down, which also happens to be the same time the whole town just kinda vacated.

So whatever, this girl is lollygagging around this creepy ass abandoned town and shes already kinda pissing me off because its like girl,.... you didn't think to bring a partner?? she didn't even try hard enough to convince her husband, but I digress. Theres some really shitty CGI dogs that are called "hell hounds" and so they attack her. She runs out of the prison and sees this creepy ass old lady and she decides to go into the house..... (we can already see where this is going). While in the house she finds out that the lady is the dead guys mother and she finds a photo album of her sister and the dead guy... AND THE SISTER IS PREGNANT IN SOME OF THE PICTURES.

I don't know if I'm too woke for this, but I kinda hate when SA is added into a book or movie just for the "shock factor" like I completely acknowledge that this happens in real life and victims stories should be heard, but there just wan't a point to this other than he wanted to gag us but he flopped..... I dont know if this is the right word, but it felt exploitative/disrespectful to actual victims and their stories idk.

Anyways so to wrap the girl finds her sister chained up in a basement and she had already given birth by that point. The girl is obviously in shock, and then they go upstairs, and the demon is there and stuff. The old lady is upstairs trying to put the demon in the baby, but eventually they all escape. The movie basically ends with all of them going home but then the kidnapped sister tries to kill the demon baby, but then the rescuer sister kills the kidnapped sister.

So needless to say, the movie was not great, idk she kept making too many dumb decisions, alone btw, and then the end was just anticlimactic, and I'm over writing about this so yeah.
