I love Discord as a platform; however, I hate joining Discord servers for various reasons:
-
Ran by idiots who let their fans walk all over them
-
Ran by idiots who hall monitor mods the server
-
Extremely sensitive staff or members
-
The main owner is never around and never talks, and you're told to NEVER ping them.
Do you know who I actually highly respect? Sheesez from Boundary breaks. Why? Because he's on his server. He talks to us. I have asked him a good many questions; he's no longer a "Youtuber" to me, but a cool dude I can talk to. He even said that when he gets his PC set up, he'll play VRChat with me and we can do a few videos together.
For a techy, you'd think Linus would talk on his Discord. It was ok. But it was just boring.
Deadmau5 has a Discord, but the last time I was in there, he didn't talk in it.
So why make something if you never use it?
Which led me to this thought:
I don't want a Discord for my YouTube when and if I get big. Why? Because, dealing with that many people, having to go through reports, kicking people who look up to me, and so on, I don't want that. You know the phrase, "Don't meet your heroes" well... I'm that guy. You'll either love me or hate me. Figure out that I'm super annoying, or you love me and wanna talk to me non-stop.
Though as much as I love the idea, I don't want to deal with it. Sure, maybe one day I might get to know some bigger YouTubers, cause a big dream of mine is to be on Game Grumps, meet Linus, and even if I get the money, go to VidCon. So who knows what will happen, I guess.
BUT this isn't to say I'm famous at all, this is just what I've noticed with discord + youtube is all.

YES It’s so frustrating lol
I subscribed to this streamer, and the sub gave access to her discord server. I wasn’t planning to talk to her directly (honestly, I just wanted to find more ppl with the same interests) but everyone in her server was rude, and they already had their own tight friend group
And since they were long-time viewers, no one was going to ban them or call out their behavior. It's so disappointing((
I've seen this SO Many times and I leave. I wanted to join Dr Mikes discord but I worried I would go in there and run into people telling me how to act and talk and I would just be like, "no thanks" and I dont want to waste $10 on his patreon to JUST talk in there. I'm one of those people that $10 is a lot of money.
