I lovee the polar express, its probably my favorite Christmas movie
Everyone talks about how it looks uncanny but honestly i never really got it, neither as a kid or now i genuinely cannot see how it looks uncanny, maybe its just one of those things where some ppl find it uncomfortable and other people don't? But nonetheless it makes me kinda sad that there are some people who can't look past the slight uncanniness to enjoy the entire film, especially since its such a great work of art
I think for at the time the visuals are pretty perfect, surely it wouldn't take too much extra editing in order to get rid of any underlying uncanniness to it, but outside of that there is so much to the visuals of this movie i absolutely loveee. For example, the movie does an incredible job at representing action and speed, scenes like where the main character is climbing up the train next to a mountain top, or when the conductor and the two kids are right in front of the train while it does these insane rollercoaster dips, dives, and turns was absolutely incredible, everytime i watch i can really feel the speed and intensity and i love it
I also find the gloomier atmosphere of the movie to be incredibly enjoyable, I've always liked when movies take on this slightly darker approach to christmas because its so underutilized and is such a fun take on it. Polar express does it especially well because it doesn't feel edgy or flanderized in any way. The instrumental music is still beautiful and whimsical, action scenes are exciting and intense yet still have this fanciful aspect to it that makes it seem like a dream, the environments are dark and icy, but that makes the soft glow of the train car lights that much more beautiful, and these aspects are only done better when you get to the Christmas town/city
Everything is alot warmer in comparison to the environment to the train ride, with golden lights, music playing, and everything, it gives you that feeling that you really should have when you're entering a Christmas town, where everything is happier and filled with fun and excitement. Yet it still manages to keep those gloomier pieces that makes the movie what it is. The town is this older style of buildings and roads, the elves look and talk like adults they're just shorter and work for santa, the reindeer are these strong realistic looking ready to go animals.
The polar express is such an awesome movie and i wish we had more like it out there(≧▽≦)

I LOVE the polar express!! It’s my favorite christmas movie of all time! It had such an impact on my life that I genuinely believed a random train would come pick me up on the night of christmas eve and take me to see santa ( ´ ▽ ` ) ahhh, I miss those days. I make sure to watch this movie every year, hot cocoa ready for the hot chocolate song, of course XD
I’ve never understood the whole “uncanny” thing either. Maybe it’s nostalgia bias, but everyone looks pretty normal to me, except a hard maybeeeee on the girl, because we were basically JUST getting out of the era where every representation of a Black person was intentionally offensive. Some facial features and expressions were and still are pretty difficult to pull off since there’s so many muscles in the face, and the expression looks different depending on the facial features.
Regardless, the movie is timeless and I honestly think it’s held up pretty well despite being an old film. There’s a reason why it hasn’t been bugged for a “remake.” ☆⌒(≧▽° )
Yeah agreed! The polar Express just has this lovely feeling to it, its the perfect movie to watch on a dark winter night while snow howls outside :3
Also ya I don really think the polar Express needs a remake honestly, i think its older visuals gives it its character
