To an extent. Sure, we all perceive the world quite indirectly due to our senses basically translating external input to something we will understand, but not everyone's filter does the job adequately enough for the necessary amount of input and interpretation to be received. Sometimes the filter is exhausted and in need of maintenance, sometimes it's simply the person requiring a higher level of processing input or a filter capable of gathering a higher amount of raw input, sometimes there's something blocking the filter from functioning as it should. Now this is somewhat a generalization, but the general public which "serves society" tends to be either less needy in terms of input amount and type, or has a very thick and functional filter that keeps them properly distanced from immediate, raw, unprocessed input. Note that this does not necessarily mean that it's all processed (or at least not as fast, hence maturity being associated with old age), quite often it's just moved somewhere away from the forefront of things to create room for focusing on other tasks which, fun fact, is what basic, nonpathological dissociation tends to do. Thus the person who seems to be able to contribute so much either by work, morals, upholding law (or the opposite), reproduction and so on usually does not have to even face the raw workings behind every single action and thought in their youthful days of productivity, and what's more, stays decently satisfied with the average output and has quite the average complaints as well. Now those who struggle with said filter can have issues that manifest in well, an uncountable amount of ways, but I'd specifically like to emphasize a specific one in this blog as that is what's bugging. The issue of overcompensation to hide the innate neediness with a charade of above average workplace and academic performance to the detriment of the functionality of one's already either dysfunctional or atypical filter. Now, apologies but I'd like to break the nonexistent 4th wall of this entire thing for a moment to highlight the importance of presentation and filter. What caused this entire perhaps unnecessarily fancily worded text to be written is your average, raw, mundane human struggle exacerbated by this exact filter issue. Anyways. Said overcompensation by replacing the type of input with something insufficient for a just as "insufficient" filter wrecks it further by creating some kind of deficit whilst also draining what energy could've been used to fish for what quenches that thirst (not addiction, but thirst. that's how significant it is). As a result we have a sisyphus that sees the rock as exactly what it is, a mere rock, and the action of rolling it uphill also as just the raw action. Clearly our fellow Camus knew that sisyphus could not be happy doing that without a filter sufficient for that action to satisfy. My interpretation may be reasonably underbaked, but perhaps facing and accepting the absurd is accepting the filter and allowing it to flourish instead of derailing its function and equilibrium. And perhaps if given time to recharge and replenish, even the specific demands could be met in rolling a rock uphill. Unfortunately even the typical filter has its huge flaws and society refuses to accommodate what it deems as atypical and not pushing the cogs fast enough. How do I rest this underbaked case (for now)? Well, I don't. Yep. Sorry. Finishing text is something I struggle with
Having a sufficient filter that distorts perception is a privilege
