October album thoughts

Here's all the albums I listened to in October. I meant to make a post like this for the stuff i listened to in September but felt I didn't have enough to say. I still don't have a lot to say but I wanted to share some of the albums that stood out to me. Additionally, I made a playlist with one song i liked from each album. the most common genres are ambient, shoegaze, electronic, rock, and some bossa nova. (and here is my September playlist)

of the four bossa nova albums I listened to Stone Flower by Antônio Carlos Jobim was by far my favourite. there wasn't a song on there that i found boring or un-catchy. sure, Getz / Gilberto has "The Girl From Ipanema" but i didn't like the overall album as much as I did Stone Flower. my least favourite of the four is そよ風アパートメント201 [Soyokaze Apartment Room 201] by Lamp, which is a little disappointing as someone who enjoys their album ランプ幻想 [Lamp Phantasma]. if you have any artists/songs/albums you like in this genre please share.

i can't speak on if I really liked Boku mo wakaran because i listened to it when i was very anxious and all i remember about it is that it intensified my anxiety. however, I wanted to put it on here as a recommendation. Bogdan Raczynski inspired some of Aphex Twin's work. If you like Aphex Twin and IDM, this may be worth a listen. i'll have to re-listen to it myself one of these days

out of everything i listened to, this was one of the albums that kept me coming back. Full commitment to the bit by Inquietus is indietronica pop music. this album reminds me a lot of Panchiko's stuff. i think if you like Panchiko you should give this a lil listen. lots of bleeps and bloops, and added cool factor as the artist is trans!

here's a bandcamp link

i was a little surprised at how much i ended up liking The Wringing Cloth by Old Saw. i, like many others it seems, am someone who tends to distance themselves from country and country-adjacent music. seeing this album described as ambient American folk and Americana didn't spark hope. however, this album is not overwhelmingly americana. it's a really nice balance of ambient and guitars that creates a peaceful, pastoral soundscape.

i don't have a lot to say about Guitarpop Forever by VIRTUA other than that i liked it. my favourite tracks are "Super Guit☆r", "One of a Kind Prize Cow", and "Running".

shoegaze, noise pop

i wish i had listened to/known about these albums sooner. i find myself coming to these two albums if i don't know what i want to listen to. Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! especially. it's an album you can listen to over and over and still be kept on your toes
sometimes i put these on over documentaries or home tapes i find on internet archive. sometimes there is weed involved

i don't know if i've mentioned this band on here but Land of the Loops has quickly become a favourite of mine recently. i like Puttering About a Small Land as much as, if not more than Bundle of Joy. i think it's a great continuation on Bundle of Joy. Land of the Loops has a great EP called Refried Treats that strays from the plunderphonics and trip hop elements of their albums and leans into a more atmospheric IDM or downtempo sound.

to end: an album i initially listened to in September. Minari (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Emile Mosseri is a soundtrack i quickly became obsessed with. i haven't seen the film but the soundtrack is beautiful, pastoral, bittersweet. the music alone carries as much imagery as any film does. music for relaxing and reflection

this is cool! i like a lot of the albums i recognize here, i'll have to check out your recommendations. i've always loved blogs like this, it's so refreshing to get music recommendations when they've had some time to marinate (i will definitely be checking out the album you said you kept coming back to FIRST, and it sounds very up my alley!!) thanks for sharing man :-D

sweet thanks! let me know how you like it. sometimes i second guess myself when giving recommendations or sharing my thoughts on music. but i'm trying to remember that any human recommendation is worth more than something an algorithm pushes.. even if its a crappy recommendation

100%! i think even a recommendation that doesn't mesh with everyone you share it with still isn't a crappy recommendation, there's really no such thing because you're just sharing what you think about the music & that is always a net positive. i'm so sick of algorithms dictating what most people listen to!! i love getting hand picked recommendations from people who genuinely love music!! i've got the first album i wanted to listen to queued up right now so i'll definitely tell you what i think when i'm done with it :^) keep doing what you're doing
