The savoury scent of Takoyaki and Yakisoba hung thick in the air, drawing an overwhelmingly large number of hungry civilians to the food stalls scattered across the road. The full moon floated high in the sky, yet it's pure, silvery light was dimmed by the warm torches placed besides the sidewalk. Lively chatter seemed to be the only sound which existed, aside from the occasional popping of popcorn or screams of delight.
Ren took his time to admire the buildings, stalls, and of course, lanterns, meandering mindlessly through the streets. He couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that this was all for him. A smile had made its way across his face - which remained unaware of. His heart pounded in his ears, exhilaration, disbelief, and triumphant. He couldn't believe his parents had hidden him away from this amazing world all his life!
Letting out a quiet chuckle, Ren continued his journey, spreading his wings in the newfound freedom he had obtained.
As he roamed the unfamiliar streets, he found himself drawn to a shabby little tavern which was rather isolated. It was quite shocking to find such a quiet area of the festival - especially a tavern - and this was the only place Ren had truly found... peaceful.
He scrutinised the building from the outside. Its walls were a dulled cream colour, and brown, wooden supported the structure. The sign which hung from the rather large doorframe read "Fox's Den!", and in a few smaller characters "beware of the delicious food lurking inside!". Before Ren could stop himself, a soft snort left his mouth. Beware of delicious food? What a charming sign.
Ren made his way to the entrance, opening the wooden door and hesitantly stepping inside the establishment. Immediately, the scent of roasted pork cutlets, fish and chips, and pungent stew wafted onto Ren. He was welcome with a warm, homey interior which seemed to give his heart a little hug.
He was so focused on his senses being overwhelmed he hadn't realised a pair of eyes piercing into his skull.
"Salutations, first customer of the day!" A resonant voice called from behind the counter, causing Ren's vision to swerve. His heart froze in his chest, as though a fairy had cast a spell upon him.
He was met with a fox spirit staring menacingly into his soul.
