October Rust; one of my favorite albums of all time.

Growing up my parents always had music playing, ever since I could remember there was something on. My dad, being a traditional metalhead and my mom, a punk. I have been introduced to a plethora of amazing music throughout my life even as my parent's interests evolved to expand genres. Thanks to my parents, I feel like I've developed a pretty baller music taste (not to toot my own horn...) A lot of what they've shown me has still impacted my tastes today... so, here we start, with one of my all time favorite albums - October Rust by Type o' Negative.

Type o' Negative is an American gothic band reigning from Brooklyn, New York. Formed in 1989 the band consists of Peter Steele (bass and vocals), Kenny Hickey (lead guitar, secondary vocals), Josh Silver (keyboard, backing vocals) and Sal Abruscato (drums + later replaced by Johnny Kelly). Prior to choosing their name they had two other names, Repulsion and Sub-Zero but ultimately the most popular music of theirs came from TON. I could go through this band's entire discography, which I might do one day but today we're focusing on October Rust.
October Rust was released August 20, 1996 (roughly 3 years before I was born), and it explores themes of sex, nature and sensuality. This album is known as a continuation of their previous Bloody Kisses. The album consists of 15 tracks, 12 music tracks and 3 featuring spoken word. The album was certified gold and placed them at number 42 in the Billboard top 200, it was also the first of their albums to ever place on the Billboard.
While I love every song on this album, even the silly ones, there are a few that specifically stand out to me. Wolf Moon, Be My Druidess, Cinnamon Girl (originally by Neil Diamond) and Burnt Flowers Fallen are the few that I could play over and over, all day every day. Wolf Moon holds a special place in my heart being that it was the very first song my dad ever showed me. I remember being around 8 or 9 hearing this song for the first time from his iPod and thinking it was one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. My dad often talks about his experience seeing them live, followed by his own band opening for them once at a show in a neighboring state. This song is sensual and sexy with beautifully crafted lyrics. I always crack jokes if I was going to be a cool, mysterious goth stripper that this would be my song of choice. This album is packed full of dark, sexy, intense songs. It's such a ride from beginning to end, each song captivating you in a different way.
Type o' Negative has an extensive discography with their last album releasing a year before Peter Steele would pass away from heart failure. His passing was devastating not only to his family and bandmates but also to the large fanbase they built up over the years. They will forever carry on a badass legacy, full of absolute masterpieces.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me yapping about one of my favorite albums, there will be plenty more of music posts to come. Below are some music videos from this album.
